Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

A suds valve! I remember when it went bad on the first KM and was removed to stop a leak. We no longer had set tubs anyway so using the sudssaver was a PITA because the KM always drained the wash water through the gray suds hose. We had one of those rolling covered tubs that Sears sold to store the wash water, but to drain the suds after the load, mom had to switch hoses and put the gray one in the standpipe and then be there to switch them back so that the rinse water went down the drain. Once the suds valve was removed, mom still tried to save the suds and bail the water back into the machine, but several times, she forgot to move the one black drain hose from the tub to the standpipe after the wash water drained into the tub and we would have to mop the basement floor. It kept the floor clean, but shortly after that, we got the 58 Lady.

That gold KM agitator with the mounted softener dispenser goes with that 1971 Kenmore 600 top and console. They both look great.

Have a good one,
James

Martin:
I tried giving it away, even gave a time and date for execution, no one wanted it bad enough to come get it, or at least give the machine a stay of execution. It's one of my least favorite machines, space is VERY limited. I may even have to send Horsey packing when the Ipso gets installed. I still have the nutator and top for you. I don't have a box big enough for both yet, so can't ship it out to you yet.

I'll be posting a Bosch FL here soon

CALYSPO WASHER

Even though I think that the Calypso washer was the best cleaning and all a round best performing machine of the 21st century [ so far ] hundreds of them are being scraped every day. I have the same problem trying to give machines away so I have stopped even trying.

John:
At times I have thought, what's the point in offering them up, in reality in puts me behind on my plans, but then I think, What if I have someone's dream machine, or a hard to find part that someone needs. So I ask around and offer them here. I was able to place the Whirlpool BD LA5700XNO with a lady that I work with, who was using a portable DD Whirlpool.

Looks like I'll be able to come see you during summer after all and errm..."Raid" that collection of yours, create more Space for you.

CALYPSO PARTS

The inner tub has a 25 year warranty so if they discontinue it they will have to supply a new washer at no cost. The KD-23 dishwashers have a full parts & labor warranty on the tank and inner door panel so if you find one that is leaking they will not only give you a new machine but they will pay for removal and installion of the new machine.

Greetings, John.

The warranty in my user manual regards to the basket is quoted below.  I don't think the basket itself is likely to materially fail, but the integral basket hub (appears to be cast aluminum like frontloader spiders) is a corrosion/failure point.

<table border=1 width=890 align=center><tr><td><blockquote><center>LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY - STAINLESS STEEL BASKET</center>
For the lifetime of the washer, when this washer is operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product, Whirlpool Corporation will pay for FSP® replacements parts for the stainless steel wash basket if defective in materials or workmanship.  This warranty does not include any polishing marks found in the bottom of the basket which occur during the break-in period of the washer.</blockquote></td></tr></table>
The trick is that nothing specific is stated regards to what is the functional "lifetime" so that is to Whirlpool's discretion. The outer tub is warranted 10 years, so I suppose at least 10 years lifetime is inferred.  Some parts are already listed as NLA, although most of those are not crucial to the operation or can be substituted (lower rear panel, console rear panel, tub sound insulation, bisque top and lid, brake spring caps, rear leveling linkage, etc.)

Marketing Gimmick with warranty on stainless basket,

I think the drums/baskets on modern washing machines are a 201 series stainless.

Having this stainless part "fail" is probably very remote, the seal, bearings, aluminum spider are what fail.

Thus saying the basket has a long warranty is a marketing gimmick, it gives good feelings to lay folks and costs little. It is like saying a 6 Lb sledge hammer has a 20 year warranty, but the handle (alum spider) is not covered
