NOTICE: It is about to happen again – Ebay (auction cancellation?) vs Craigslist sale

I wanted to alert the two eBay bidders, who are likely members of automaticwasher.org, of this situation.

I have agreed to buy a GE Pull-Out Dishwasher located in Cazenovia, New York through a Craigslist ad that was posted on February 19, 2013. I first communicated with the seller the night of February 26th.

Unbeknownst to me, an eBay auction for the same dishwasher was initiated earlier that same day, in the morning of February 26, 2013, and which is set to end the morning of Tuesday, March 5th (link is below).

The Craigslist ad reads virtually the same as the eBay auction description, and is as follows: Vintage 1950's Pink Dishwasher - $100 (Cazenovia). Large pink pull out dishwasher. Does not work. Exterior is in great condition. $100 or best offer. Cash only. Posting ID: 3629969040 Posted: 2013-02-19, 9:56PM EST

I know how upset I was when this happened to me last year, when I was bidding on a dishwasher and the eBay auction went to completion, then was cancelled after the fact because the machine was sold outside of the auction process.

I have placed a phone call, and left a message for the seller, to discuss this matter, and figure out how they plan to handle the conflict.

By me posting this information, I hope to avoid hard feelings.

ps: Looking closer to the photo, it looks as if the timer dial is missing!

OMG - that's an Empress!! It may not be working, but any Mobile Maid (or Princess) the same vintage would be a parts donor....

The half-moon dial may not be broken - the front panel may have shifted or slipped and is hiding the dial.

Yes, I had an email back saying that the eBay auction was cancelled.

Again, I apologize if there are any hard feelings about this, but I only discovered this auction in progress today after I paid for the dishwasher - purchased through the Craigslist ad.

Yeah, that was me bidding for that Empress which disappeared from under me just a couple of minutes ago. I don't have any hard feelings against you whatsoever, because that's how things happen in an auction and if I had wanted it badly enough, I would have paid the "Buy it Now" price of 100.00 ( in an instant if I had seen that "OPEN" switch on the dashboard) when I was told about it by someone a week ago, and thank you very much to that someone. Where I DO hold hard feelings is for the nebbish weasel seller, who wouldn't do me the courtesy of responding to my requests <span style="text-decoration: underline;">in any way </span>to discover the quality of the interior, racks etc. so I could decide whether or not I wanted to go to the expense of having a questionable 1959 Empress shipped to me.

 

I wish there were a way with eBay to leave negative feedback for this little twerp of a seller. I don't blame anybody for wanting top dollar for their wares, but it's a sleazy way of doing business.

 

I'm glad somebody got it and look forward to many pictures. My Empress will come one day.
