One great thing about ALDI is house brands that defy the downsizing of nationally advertised brand like frozen potato products (French fries, "'tater tots") in 2-pound bags instead of 28 ounces. Breakfast sausage chubs were still a full pound last time I checked. Fresh Italian sausage and Bratwurst are a generous 19 ounces.

Sad to say, not every square foot is immune. Ice cream was most likely shrunk to 48 ounces from a half-gallon long ago but now the coffee aisle is feeling the squeeze.

Fewer ounces, fewer cups, less buzz for your buck. Witness the horror by checking the View Full Size box.

Oh, ALDI, how could you?!

"I think that's happening everywhere.."

Indeed so.

I was in a Poundstretcher discount store a couple of months ago and I did a 'double take' - a packet of Daz (and possibly Surf too) with 6 washes!

I presumed they were meant for the holidaymakers, but still, I wouldn't put it past the manufacturers to reduce their packs on a wider basis.

many boxes of pasta are no longer 1lb.....most decreased to 12 ounces

seen sugar dropped down to a 4lb bag too.....

probably the only thing that makes sense is hotdogs used to be 10 to a pack, and yet rolls came as an 8 pack.....now hotdogs are in 8's as well, yet the price hasn't dropped...

There's a term for this downsizing. It's called "shrinkflation". To make matters worse, sometimes the reduced size is hidden by those extra-sneaky companies...

like this Toblerone chocolate bar...

Twintubdexter- I love Toblerone but now when they’ve changed it I stopped buying it.. it looks so weird lol

There's a thin silver lining.

ALDI has always sold imported Italian bronze-cut pasta in 1-pound bags and they've added organic 100% whole wheat spaghetti from Italy in a 1-pound box, so most of the time you don't need to tweak an heirloom recipe to accommodate less of the main ingredient.

Toblerone

That looks a very cheap and nasty trick, and the customer won't know until they open it.

Mind you, it is to be expected. Toblerone is owned by Kraft offshoot, Mondelez - who also own - surprise, surprise - Cadbury's and Terry's.
