Oh no... problem with tne new to us Duet

You may remember we got our neighbors Duet washer sometime last year and have had no problems with it, till now.

THe other day I did a washload and as I was putting the clothes in the dryer found that much of what was on the bottom of the drum was still soaking wet.. So I did a drain and spin.. I thought perhaps there'd been a quick power failure and it stopped and didn't reset.. It must have stopped in the final spin or near final spin as the fabric softener dispenser was empty.

Tonight I walked into the laundry room for something and found the floor was wet near the washer. I thought, geeze, the laundry sink tap is leaking.. but no. looking around I see a drops of water coming from the washer opening.. (door is always left open) . I find that the washer tub is full of water and dripping out the front onto the floor.. so..

What could be going wrong here.. I'm guessing some water inlet valve isn't closing completely ?

New water valve in order. Easy to replace by removing the top panel.

thanks Greg.. not quite that model , it's the older german made one, but I found the part for it and ordered on Amazon.. get this..The part was $15.60 US on amazon.com.. about the cheapeast price I could find on any cdn website was just over $50 Cdn.. ordered it thru the US.. total $25. .

That has happened to me a couple of times with my older Duet, but not the newer.  I found simply running a cycle seems to solve the issue for the moment.  It's very random for me, it might not happen again for months or  at this point over a year.

 

Not worth the expense to replace the valve as I question if it is the culprit, or perhaps some electronic gremlin.

I hear you... but I don't want to chance it if we're not home and forget to , which we do sometimes as I did, turn off the water at the faucet after we're done washing. There were drops of water dripping out of the "outlet" top left of the boot where it sprays into the tub . For whatever reason I can't fathom when they built this house the didn't put a floor drain in the laundry room which is the room behind the garage, nor in the basement that I've found, where there's a water heater and boiler, strange. Had there been I'd be less conerned

Bad Inlet Valve

Hi, you are much better off replacing it now, I have seen many of these valves fail and cause flooding damage to the home, unless the washer is in a basement etc next to a floor drain I would not chance it.

John is right, I've seen some pretty bad damage from a leaky Duet/HEt3 in a second floor laundry room.

I couldn't remember what model you have, I like the German-built washers a little better overall than the newer versions for a variety of reasons. Glad you found the part that cheap online, I think I paid $18 or so at Sundberg Co.

that would be some kind of mandatory code that anything in a home where there is risk of leaking at any point that there should be a drain in the floor in or around, say, the water heater, washing machine, refrigerator, etc.

I mean, a refrigerator with a water dispenser could fail, causing a leak. A water heater could fail, causing a major leak. I've heard of that so many times.

Anyway, it took a while, but I've gotten used to turning off the water on my washer after done. It's automatic to me now. As soon as end of cycle signal, that's the first thing I do, unless I'm washing another load.

Yes you'd think.. Thing is,, all the other houses we lived in here growing up all had a drain in the basement floor.
