I adopted a matching almond Maytag washer and dryer pair when I bought my house. They resemble the old pair on That 70s Show. They both run well but they need a little tlc. My biggest problem is that the model # on the washer tag has been defaced. All I can see is what appears to be a 0 then a defaced digit/letter and then the number 408. The dryer is model #HDE408. I would like to get new wash size buttons and the dryer no longer senses when clothes are dry so I can only use the timer. Can anyone help.

The buttons seem to be common. I am more concerned about the autodry sensor for the dryer. Both are still workhorses and a testament to how things were made.

Sounds like an A408 washer

Your washer is probably an A408. If you can post pictures of them that should help ensure proper identification. Someone on the board with a Maytag dryer like yours has probably had an issue like that and can hopefully provide some advice.
