Old Maytag Wringer washer

Hi, What can you tell me about this one? The seller is asking $60, but they don't really know much about it.

Any ideas on the year, model etc?

That looks like a E2LP Master washer. The serial number stamped into the metal on the backside will tell the age. I have a 1957 E2LP washer that was in storage for a decade or two in a barn and it fired up first shot with no issues. I even shot some video of it washing. If it's functional I'd say GO FOR IT! It looks so clean, I'd go for it anyway for only $60! You'll have to find the gooseneck that screws onto the end of the drain hose if it isn't there somewhere.

I have seen these on craigs list for 150 00, the best washing wringer you will use, I think the square tub has something to do with it, but it washes a lot better than a Maytag automatic.

That actually looks like an E2LPS, the one I would love to find!

It has a pump and a safety system.
The safety system has usually deteriorated by now and can be bypassed by installing a 1/2 inch wide machine bolt to effectively turn it into an E2LP, but more on that after you get it.

This looks like the 1968-1983 version. It is a very good price, so don't let it sit there, go and get it!

Hiya guys, I brought it home tonight.

Dave, it is a E2LPS. Can you elaborate more on what that means?

It apparently belonged to the current owners aunt, who had lived in the Mojave desert down CA way. Shortly before she passed away she had it sent to the current owners mother, and then it ended up with her son after she passed. Nice people, I enjoyed talking with them. We plugged it in and it started right up.

Can someone run through the controls with me, or is there a manual online anywhere?

I guess it comes on when you plug it in? And it starts cycling when you pull the knob on the side?

The lever activates the pump? Sends out quite a stream, I was lucky to dodge it. (;

I couldn't get the wringer to work though. How does it operate?

It's in pretty nice shape, I haven't had time to look at it very closely, it was dusk when I looked at it, and dark by the time I got home. It's evidentialy been stored inside until it was displaced by another appliance here shortly before it was placed on craigslist. That along with it's previous life in the desert I suppose accounts for it's good condition.

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

That's pretty much it. Not much to a wringer

The lever to the right of the wringer head operates the wringer and its direction. Not sure how it works on an E2LPS (I have only played with RCD's E2LP), but pushing the lever forward should operate the wringer in one direction, pulling back should operate it in the opposite direction.

Being an E2LPS means there was a rubber bulb attached to a tube that causes the wringers to operate with air pressure when stepped on, a true PITA. Like Dave mentioned above, you can install a 1/2 bolt in opening where the tube would connect. This will override the need for the bulb and tube. On the left side of the wringer head you'll find the directional lever. Moving it away from you will let you feed items forward through the wringer, move the lever toward you and it will reverse the direction of the rollers. Finding a NOS bulb and tube is getting more & more difficult. Don't be alarmed if it leaks a little oil, this is somewhat normal, though annoying. I sold a 1981 E2LS (gravity drain) that was altered like this, and it was a fantastic machine, kinda wish I would've kept it now.

Didn't have time to take any pics today. ): Maybe tomorrow.

I did fill it with water and run it a bit. It's leaking from the bottom of the tub. Is there just a tub seal down there? I didn't have time to look to close, but it doesn't look like a hard fix.

Can anyone tell me what is involved with the wringer fix? I'm not quite understanding.
