My neighbor is selling one home and moving about six blocks away. He and his wife were asking about a fridge in the garage that came with the house.

It says Westinghouse Y-8154 and serial #6686570. If anyone can help with the age of this machine and what its' value might be. It surely needs to be cleaned up but from my understanding it does work.

Any information is helpful. I believe that at they are also looking to eventually sell it. It's located in the NYC suburbs.

Thanks.

1949-50

We had one when i was growing up except ours was the next step up with the full width freezer, quiet good refrigerator, in my opinion the best on the market

Ours was purchased in 1949, and was model D-9-49.  It had a meat keeper below the freezer which doubled as a drain pan when defrosting.  It also had two "Humidrawers" at the bottom.  The exterior and door design was identical except for the styling of the Westinghouse badge.

I'm not sure if the subject fridge is considered a nicer model or not, as it appears it's not outfitted for the Humidrawers, but the shelving is more generous and the freezer door exterior scheme has far more modern look.  I don't know what's up with the model number.  Since it ends in 54 I wonder if this styling could have survived that long.   Styles for the TOL models had changed by then.

I noticed that the Lucite handle trim failed just like it did on our fridge.
