it's fun for a girl or a boy

Oh yes, indeed I do remember Slinky from around 1968 just before I was in 1st grade~. They may go back further, but that's when I remember them.

I had several Slinkys and used to set the side-by-side at the top of the stairs leading to the basement. Then I'd quickly tip each one over and watch them race to the bottom. This is what passed for excitement when I was in Kindergarten in 1964, LOL.

Actually, my Tonka trucks and machine gun ("Sounds like the real thing!") were more exciting. But compared to a Wii they weren't much. At least I was outside and running around with the neighborhood kids.

I remember them from very early on. My cousin next door got one and of course I pleaded for one as well. Dad wouldn't go for it, something about a waste of money for a spring,, same story when I wanted a Frisbee LOL I shouldn't complain about him they were really quite generous with the Christmas and birthday presents

Oh, yes. Still have one.

"What walks down stairs
Alone or in pairs
And makes a slinkety sound?
A spring, a spring
A marvelous thing
Everyone knows it's Slinky!
It's Slinky! It's Slinky!
For fun it's a wondeful toy
It's Slinky! It's Slinky!
It's fun for a girl and a boy."

These easily date back to the 50's. I remember when I was 6 and we moved into a 2-story house I had a great time with my slinky. I was bummed out when my parents had carpeting installed, including on the stairs. Too bad these toys are made of plastic now. The sound of the metal Slinky was part of the fun.

I remember the Slinky from the early 50's. Never did see one in a box though. Older brother and sister might have.

As I recall, the Slinky was a somewhat perishible good. Sooner or later one of the links would get a kink in it, and no matter how hard you tried, you'd never be able to get it back to the way it was. Still, they were great fun.

OMG! I just heard this quote last night...."Drama queens are just like Slinkys....they're not worth much but are alot of fun to watch fall down the stairs."

LoL.. Montreat Conference center Staff decorated a bulding there once with 500 slinkys.. Then they left it for us "arrangements staff" to clean up>... Still have 100+ metal slinkys never used in a box at the old house

" Walks the stairs without a care and makes a wonderfull sound?

Fizzy's

Anybody here remember Fizzy's drink tablets???
I just received 2 boxes of them in cherry and root beer!!!!They came out around the same time as Slinky.

Oh, yes, I remember Fizzy's very well. Drank too many of them at one time and projectile vomited. I don't remember them tasting very good at all, but they were such fun to play with. Root beer-flavored Alka-Seltzer, kinda sorta.

Do they still make Fizzy's, Chuck, or did you receive a vintage shipment?

Fizzies

I've seen Fizzies out there in specialty candy stores that carry a lot of retro or "zombie" brands. I'm sure they're way more expensive than they were when we bought them as kids, but what isn't?

I agree that they didn't taste that great but they do bring back memories of the days when a nickel could still deliver satisfaction at the candy counter.
