Real nice Lawnboy!! Something about those 2 cycle LawnBoys.Great video clips.Used to have a Lawnboy-now regretting selling it.May have to get another.missed the sound and the SMELL!something about the 2 cycle oil being burned with the gas in the motor.yours must have the mulch plate installed-no discharge and the pile of leaves it ran over DISAPPEARED!

Runs like a Deere

Currently, I have a cheapie Bolens tractor from Lowe's. Works great and mows like it should. Helen said that one day I'll open up the shed and find a John Deere in its place.

I also like the vintage Snapper lawn mowers.

Nothing like the smell of a 2 cycle engine!

Man I love the smell of a 2 cycle engine running. especially on an outboard motor......I found a couple of old lawnboys at the flee market last year but the guy was wanting and arm and a leg plus my first born for it. If if would have been in decent shape I would have considered it but the thing looked like it had gone through world war II.

Rick I can't believe you're grass already needs cutting, have you put fertilizer down or something,,you're not that far south of me. Mines greened up good but hasn't really taken off yet.

Hi Pete, I use the Scotts 4 Step System on my lawn, but have not put anything down since last fall.

Summer homes lawn did not need cut yet,as they never did ANYTHING to it. Will start with weed killer over there....

As of April 22 here in Ontario all chemical fertilizers and weed/pesticides are banned for home use (cept for golf courses natch) so I've bought a few bags to tide me over.
Pisses me off especially when golf courses are the worst offenders of all for overusing fertilizers and pesticides.

Have had to mow the front lawn for the past month...

I used to enjoy it a lot more ... ten years ago when I bought the place. Now it's just one of those things that eats into time ;-).

BUT, I did get a nice Honda-powered Yard Machines push mower. Most of the time I leave it on mulching, but the bag works well on damp grass. Have three plantings in the middle of the lawn, so corded electric didn't work too well after a while. The Honda engine is a good one, don't miss the B&S gas hog a bit.

You guys are mowing now? We had snow a week ago here in Illinois! lol My Lawnboy died last summer so I went out and bought a brand new Toro. This is the first mower I have ever had to put oil in and not mix with the gas. I miss my Lawnboy already and I haven't even mowed with the new one yet. Oh well. Gary

Sure we are mowing here now Gary. The lawn was looking a bit shaggy here and there, and we were afraid we might get kicked out of the hood if we didn't get right on it. <:

Really, the lawn could have waited another week, but I had the time so I sharpened the blade, greased the bearings, and cleaned the air filter. Besides, we missed the sights and sounds of the vintage Lawn-Boy, so we ran it!

You guys are mowing now?

I never stop. Must be the warm winters we have in the Bay Area. During colder than usual winters I can skip a week or two but never rest up the mower and weed eater any longer than that time period. Oil and air filters get changed/cleaned on both units every April.

I used to supplement my income in Flint with a Lawn Boy two-stroke, back in 1987. I would clean that machine after every use, to keep it as new as possible. The smell of that two-stroke, mixed with the freshly cut grass was just irresistable. I also like two-stroke outboard motors.

Excellent job on restoring the '63 Lawn Boy Rick! It reminds me of the similar '67 that my uncle had.

About 5 years ago Lawn Boy stopped making their two cycle models for good due to EPA regulations and people who really wanted one were paying double and triple list price in some cases to get one of the last ones.

Lawn Mowning, and Summertime smells...

The service that keeps the lawns here at the complex were out this morning in full regalia, doing their thing. Seems that all the dead grass needed a boost or something. Surprisingly there are more green patches than I thought. Here in Ann Arbor the "look" of all property, including your yard is a very important image to maintain.

A favorite smell that evokes a VERY good memory for me was our neighbors the Wrights when I was quite young also had a Lawn Boy similar to Rick's, but had the HUGE sidebag attachment. When in use it reminded me of a Kirby bag all blown up. The smell from it was indeed intoxicating. I can tell you that Mrs. Wright was an avid clothes "hanger outer" in the summertime, and a smell that will always stay with me is the smell of Mr. Wright using that LawnBoy early in the day, and her hanging out her fresh laundry after he cut the grass in that area, and moved onto other parts of the yard.

I used to walk thru the lines, chatting it up with her; and just REVELING, and just smelling the smells of summer for me. It was a very distinct combination of Fresh Start, Final Touch, A LawnBoys exhaust plus fresh cut grass and thinking how someday I would do the same, or try to create the same. Never happened...:-(

Sorry....The sight of the LawnBoy takes me to those moments when I had the best neighbors in the world, and to me the world smelled a little bit cleaner....

P.S. She was also the lady who had the upper end mid 60's G.E. Filter Flow set too....
