Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Gansky,

I don't think this model made it across the water to you guys. This was the last Automagic made here in the UK. Launched in 1958 it had a short run to 1962 ish.

I have had 4 of these machines over the time i have been collecting vintage washers, they all fail on the friction clutch (bad design) The pedals went from Left to right (Wash - Stop - Spin)

The two machines I currently have need a bit of a clean up, i managed to get two from one seller, which was a bonus but probably indicates the clutch has gone on one of them.

Cheers Keith

Thor

I thought it had a bit of a look of Thor about it although I must admit that I had forgotten about the glass lidded versions that Keith has shown us. It seems to have a "spin to save" feature like the UK Thor (and Parnall) versions had, this is a form of suds saving although you cannot actually complete a cycle when using it. After washing the clothes are spun and then removed from the machine. The sudsy water is then returned to the tub for more washing. When the wash water is discarded the clothes can then be returned to the wash tub for rinsing and final spinning
