Is another's treasure. A friend of ours works for the DPW in a neighboring town. Twice a year the town has a large item trash pickup. It costs the town to get rid of everything they collect, so they are more than willing to save me ALL the vacuums they pick up. Here is day one's pickup.

A close up

Of the keepers. The Hoovers and the Kirby are staying. The other plastic machines go to my buddy's vac shop for parts and or resale. He saves me any vintage vacs he finds.

Just look at the bagless machines that have been discarded. Even the newer Eurekas too. It amazes me how people can spend money only to throw the item out after a couple of years. Some may be newer than that.

I've been wanting that model of Hoover Slimline for a while and have not been able to locate one until now. That is my find of the day. That Commercial Hoover upright isn't bad either.

I will plug each vacuum in to see if it runs and label them Then the plastic Sharks and Eurekas will be onto better places.

That Slimline is a good find. Its funny how you look for something, and eventually someone gives it to you. I have that happen to me a lot.

I spotted an Electrolux "Automatic" upright out on the curb on the way home for lunch today. Without much deliberation, I pulled over and popped it into the turn. It's mostly plastic, but I'm intrigued by the sealed bag chamber and the weird noise it makes when you turn it on :-).

PS-I still have the dual chamber Eureka Whirlwind bagless I got about 10 years ago. It works just fine. I also have a newer one, the kind with a single chamber and that annoying pleated filter in the cup. It sits in storage, mostly. I noticed today at Costco that Eureka has yet another new model, this on with the filter assembly (just a foam/poly pad affair at that) completely seperate from the dust cup, which appears to be relatively easy to empty. But I'm still thinking the Dust Devil D2 is the modern model to have at this point.

Hey Joe!

Great finds...I was one weekend too early! I am glad that you got such a good haul. Bob will be glad to have all of those newer machines as they still have many valuable parts. I am so happy that you got one of the Slimlines with a cord reel. Those are so hard to find and you got one at the BEST price! That Kirby looks like it will clean up nicely. Thanks for posting the pics!!!! I cannot agree with you more about the waste of the bagless cleaners. They just DO NOT work and people find out all too quickly that they made a huge mistake in buying one. They are just too "needy" of a machine for most folks. Great pictures!
