Think sodium is nasty, read the adjacent article on the same site about fluorine.  Which is why soon you will have to replace your car air conditioner-- again-- or more practically your car.  Because the replacements for 'freon' still use fluorine, which turns out to be thousands of times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas.  Fluorine will shortly be banned in refrigerants, making your new 134a car contraband and unobtainium like freon is now.

When I was into chemistry knew about Flourine.Worst of the Halogen family of elements.Hydroflouric acid cannot be kept in glass containers. Before plastic came about was stored in special wax bottles. Now polyethelyne bottles contain the stuff.Even made this-Yup,etches glass well.Made a tiny amount.CFC----Maybe we are going to have to ban volcanoes and some earthquake activities-at firt it was thought that CFC's weren't produced in nature-think again-volcanoes spew this out in amount that makes mans contributions look tiny.So-they can be produced in nature. As long as any refrigerants are contained-no problem. Some have been contained in their systems for even decades!

We etched glass with hydrofluoric acid. The teacher covered the bottom of a piece of glass with wax and carved our school initials in the wax. Then she put the glass over the acid and the initials appeared in the glass once the wax was melted off.

Oh yes,the bio creamation way-some folks have a thing about having their loved ones liquid remains flushed down the sewer system. It an emotional thing.-Even though the process is safe. The unused KOH is considered hazardous waste!!!It is a more powerful chemical than NAOH.--the drain cleaner stuff.I have seen NAOH dissolve hair and peices of flesh-that is one reason why its a good drain cleaner.
