My dad used to work for Westinghouse in the late 70's to mid 80's and he basically sat me down the other day and talked to me about Westinghouse because he has seen how interested I am in there washers. Anywho......he was telling me that he had gone to the P&D department once and saw what the "guys" were up too. One of the last things they were designing is a toaster that actually buttered and jellied the toast all by itself. Pretty cool to think about huh. They actually had a working prototype but in never got further then that. He also told me about why Westinghouse fell from grace and so forth and why they are what they are now.

Fascinating

Too bad it never came out. Sounds like he told a very interesting story. I am very curious about the story of Westinghouse, I know I am not the only one who is too.

I know that the smalls marked "Westinghouse" are really made by Salton, but I noticed a couple of really creative appliances in the past couple of weeks.

One is a combination steamer/mixer. The idea is to load it up with taters. When they're cooked, the mixer starts up and mashes 'em for you.

Other thing was a toaster with a built-in bagel slicer. Stick the bagel in the top, it slices then toasts and delivers it.

Sorry about that..

Here is the correct link, I made that one too long. Be sure to visit the Appliance Room. People from all over the world have visited the Westinghouse Museum so if you are ever here be sure to visit!

Glad you found it! For anyone, might it someday be possible to have a wash in in the Pittsburgh area? I never had one and don't know how to run one and don't have a collection but I think if anyone had one we could include a visit to the Westinghouse Museum and also have the George Westinghouse impersonator come visit.

If anyone is into dishware, there is a set of dishes that George recieved from Lenin in Russia just before it became the Soviet Union. Oh, it is soooooo Ugly!.
