One very beat up Maytag Dependable Care Washer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

That washer looks like it's been rode hard. That's the exact same washer (plus matching dryer) my mom had before they moved into assisted living in 2001. Although in the true Maytag Lineup at the time, it was the next to TOL, it was the TOL Maytag sold at Circuit City, which is where they bought theirs.

no lid seal?

I have never been aware of a seal on a Maytag lid??? Am I missing something?

btw...my sister has this same washer, bought in 1994, and it still looks and performs like new. It's all in the care given them..

lid seal

not sure if it's supposed to have one or not, but the lid has tons of very sharp ragged edges and it appears as if some one had a rubber seal installed around the edge at one point

missing seal

I don't think Maytags ever had a seal around the door; at least not the ones I have seen (post AMP), but they may have. I am in complete agreement with you....before I could wash any of my clothes in that nasty machine, I would have to scrub it down and run a load of bleach water through it with no clothes....

I saw a commercial coin-op Maytag for sale at the local appliance parts store yesterday. It had a big black straight-vane agitator, with lint filter holes ala Maytags of old - but it must be a self-cleaning lint filter because the center of the agitator doesn't look like it comes off... Anyway the center of the agitator was extra wide, so something is going on in there.

Can't remember what the wash basket was made of, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't that awful GE plastic crap.
