Went to several open houses and saw some interesting refrigerators--this was in suburban Detroit, some late-50s ranches (can you say real plaster, h/w floors, sliding closet doors, etc).

Saw some interesting refrigerators, though.

Early 50s Kelvinator refrigerator
mid 50s Hotpoint 2 door refrigerator (labeled "Super-Stor" on the refrig door handle and "Food Freezer" on the freezer door handle--in case you forget)--this still had rounded-looking cabinets

Probably early 60s "Hudson" refrigerator/freezer (single door, but with insulated separated freezer and cold plate on the refrigerator). Number plate said it was from AIMCEE Wholesale (which I believe wast he private labeler for many of the department stores in this era). Any idea of the background--the J.L. Hudson Company was the predominant department store here in Detroit, so it fits. (didn't realize though that they used a specific name...remember seeing "AMC" and "Ambassador" as those kind of local names)

Refrigerator looked in good shape--square corners, plenty of drawers etc still in place.

Fun finds!

Sounds like a trip back in time! I love old houses and am always excited when I get to tour one ,even at estate sales. You never know what you`ll see!

Hudsons

Back in my early years late 50's early 60's we'd go every couple of months or so downtown Detroit shopping at Hudsons. Was the closest "big city" to us about 60 miles away. I'd spend the time playing on the escalators and elevators while mom did her best to hide in the racks so my dad couldn't find her and drag her out. Naturally she was always about 1/2 hour late at the pre set meeting place and my dad would be fuming. We pretty much quit going after the riots except for the auto show and the flower show at Cobo Hall and the big store downtown closed for good anyways.
