I am considering getting a spare fridge to keep either in the garage or laundry just in case of emergency, not another new one but an older maybe even reconditoned one.
There is a model on ebay I am keeping an eye on it is a Frigidaire 410 litre Cyclamatic, with 268 litre fridge and 142 litre freezer.
The owner states it still works quite well apart from develpoing a small puddle of water where the fruit crisper is locate.
I know Frigidaire disappeared from from here years ago but I know that my late aunt in Perth had a little Frigidaire cyclamatic about 290 litre and it actually outlasted her believe it or not and she absolutely loved it, I believe it is now still working as a spare fridge with one of her sons.
Worth bidding on or should I look for something else maybe something else not quite so old.
Actually I used to love those old Philips Super Chill fridges we had the old 460 litre for about 18 or so years.
Cheers.
Steve.

You could do alot worse than that. The older Frigidaire refrigerators tended to last and last. The compressors are SOLID and that one would most likely outlast anything new on our sales floor. They were quiet, too!

Hi Steve,

A puddle of water inside a cyclic defrost fridge usually means that the drain inside the fridge is blocked. Not normally too hard to clean out.

If its working, then for $5 its a steal, plus being cyclic defrost rather than frost free, it wont cost an arm and a leg to run.

Steve,

I have a Cycla-Matic that we bought used when we got married in 1998, we have it as our secondary fridge. It is from approx. 1971-72, and purrs like a kitten. I would say get it, you won't be sorry.

Hi Steve

I don't know if you mind or not, but I don't think that would be a GM Holden - era Frigidaire. Heaven knows who made it - Kelvinator? Fisher and Paykel? Or it might be the last of the true Frigidaires made in Australia. I don't know who owned the rights to the Frigidaire name in Australia once GM Holden gave up on it, but I think it was well before GM sold Frigidaire in USA. I think it might have been Email, which means it might have been a Westinghouse with Frigidaire badges.

Still it looks like a good fridge for very little money.

Don't expect it to be cheap to run though. Those freezer walls are very thin, it will have to cycle on pretty often to keep cold. Fridges have come a LONG way in recent years, in energy efficiency at least.

Chris.

Thanks to all

Thanks to everyone for the info, much appreciated however there is a problem with getting the thing here if I did bid and win, no transport from this end and the guy cannot deliver, but no matter on Tuesday weare going to look at a couple of reconditioned whitegoods dealers and see what they have.
Chris, yes I think you might be right I do vaguely remember my Aunt's little Frigidaire and I think it did have on the little info label on the inside that it was by Email and I am pretty sure that there was a range of Frigidaire's in about the 90's which came from New Zealand therfore they were most likely Fisher and Paykel's with a Frigidaire badge.
Many thanks to all once again.
Steve.
