Orangemageddon is upon us in the backyard of the new house. They're seedless Navels but are still worth juicing, which is what I did with them at our pre-previous house.
I just googled a recipe for Orange Julius and while they all claim to be the same or better than the real deal, they all call for frozen orange juice concentrate. My recollection of an Orange Julius outlet was a large tub-top dispenser for fresh squeezed juice that had to be reconstituted before extracting (a la shake/whirl well before using). It was part of the process. It's been a long time since I visited an Orange Julius so anyone feel free to correct or contribute on this.
Liquid amounts called for in these recipes are: 6 oz of frozen concentrate, two cups of milk, and 1.5 cups of ice. The recipes say the ice is key. How would I go about substituting fresh juice for concentrate? Or are those "Orange Frost" packets at the supermarket a less troublesome option? I'm preparing to give the Lady Kenmore a workout with the Osterizer "Fusion" blade over the next couple of months.
EDIT:
I did find recipes for fresh squeezed, but the amounts for both fresh and frozen recipes are all over the map. I may just have to visit the one OJ outlet I know of in this "town" of 1M+ and remind myself of the flavors I'll be trying to recreate.
