Well guys, its always good to get a new washer, but when u get it for free, well, makes it all the better.
The story goes..
Now all of my friends know i am hooked on laundry and washers and such, they think its quirky and quite funny (but not in a negative way). Well one of my good friend's parents were throwing away their 7 year old whirlpool front loader, apparently the bearings had seized and they would rather invest in a newer model than fix the old one. My friend was supposed to take it to the rubbish dump for them but asked me if i wanted it instead (so long as i could fix it). I said yes, not really knowing what the hell i was doing since i have no mechanical leanings really. I found out which part i needed (bearing thing on the back, i don't know what its called so will be known as 'deeley' from now on). The original deeley needed to come out, but was rusted in so took me and my bestest buddy Paul quite some time to hammer it out. I gave up on it until Paul called me up saying he had got the part out, i was back home in less than 10 seconds (quite a feat when i was 20k's away hehe). We fitted the new part easily (4 bolts) and out went the old Hitachi for a bit and in came the Whirlpool (otherwise known as Lucky).
Shes a great machine. She has a proper timer, none of this electronic selector stuff, you have to click it all the way round till you get to where u need to be (does anybody else love clicking timers round or is it just me?). It has a temp dial, a spin dial (max spin 1000rpm, awesomeness) and 4 option buttons (rinse hold, rapid, half load and eco) and a start button.
Cycle times are quick too- i did some tea towels on 95*- took and hour and 15 mins or something like that- seemed much quicker than my other whirlpool f/l did.
Rinse water levels are halfway up the door on every rinse unless you select Half Load- i love having properly rinsed clothes!
The programs go from 1 to 10 with letters for rinse and spin, intensive spin, gentle spin and drain. From memory the numbers go:
Cotton
1- Max 95* with Prewash
2. Max 95*
3. Max 60*- Short
Synthetic
4. Max 60* with prewash
5. Max 60*
6. Max 50*- Short
Delicates
7. Max 40* with prewash
8. Max 40*
9. Wool max 40*
10. Silk max 30*
A- Rinse and Spin
B- Intensive Spin
C- Gentle Spin
D- Drain
