I have always loved the look of the Bendix "Tombstone" design.

Did these machines Tangle as much as the Westy Frontloaders ?

I remember using the Bendix "Double Load" at the Laundromat with my Mom back in the sixties and can't recall any tangling.

Did they have a trick to loading like the "Quadrant" loading for the Unimatics ?

The Westinghouse machines tangled because of the slanted tub. Once Westinghouse went to the non-slanted tub with two vanes that were not positioned opposite each other and the "potato pulley," the oval-shaped pulley that created the variable tumble speeds and tumble patterns, the tangling problem was almost eliminated. The larger size of this drum and the new tumble pattern earned this design an upgrade in washing ability from CU in the mid 60s.

The modern Bendix tubs like in the Duomatic had 4 vanes, but two were high, opposite each other, and two were low, opposite each other. They seemed to do a very good job of tumbling and keeping items separated. The Bendix double load commercial machines used the drum from the Duomatic. The main thing that improved the washing ability of the Bendix brand was the larger tub in the Duomatic. CU noted that in the report on Combos.
