well I have moved on up...as the Jefferson say...to a deluxe apatment in the sky.....well its not exactly the same. Its a building built in 1909 with 1o foot ceilings, double door arch ways, between the rooms but a pretty modern 80s typ kitchen with Crosely appliances.

I have questions for you wall decorators....what do you do with a living room that is 10 feet tall about 11 feet wide and 18 feet long. One wall is windows from floor to cieling and two of the other walls have the double sized arches.one wall is solid.Picture a living room at the bottom of a cereal box and you get my delema.

what can I do to get the box look out of this. Im allowed to do anything design wise except for actuall remodle that involves any tearing anything out. Help help help plz!!!!

well, always the simplest thing is paint.....but go a little further...something a little bold....don't be afraid of color.....and a big impact will be to do an accent wall....that will get you started.......

watch or go to HGTV.com.....loads of ideas...and color choices and combinations I would never have thought of......that are out of this world.....

right now I am doing the boys room.....soft blue on three walls, and a pumpkin orange on the other.......talk about great impact!

our living room is 2 tone brown, dark chocolate and milk chocolate, north and south facing walls are dark, the opposites are light...a lot of boxed out tone on tone.....great compliments from everyone....

the master bedroom is four colors.......cream, olive, charcoal, sand.......the house came this way......I would never have thought to do this.....but it looks amazing....

Float, Baby, Float!

You've got a long, narrow room, which means one thing - large pieces of furniture arranged against the walls will accentuate the problem. Whatever you do, do not put your sofa against a wall.

Put it out in the middle of the space, across the narrow width of the room. Put a couple of chairs and a coffee table across from it. This is called "floating," meaning that the furniture floats in the middle of the space instead of hugging the walls. Putting the sofa running across the narrow width, instead of running along the long length, breaks up the narrow look of the room.

The rest is paint, pictures, rugs and chatchkes, and those I leave to your own taste and judgment. The furniture placement is what's critical with a difficult space like this.

You also need to be ruthless about scale. Today's fashionable mass-produced furniture is large and overstuffed, and it can make small or narrow spaces look constipated. I live in an extremely small house, 480 square feet, and my living room is pretty much the size of one in an older mobile home. I have smaller furniture, and I have a love seat instead of a sofa. The room is pleasant as a result, but if I had gone out and bought a big overstuffed sofa and a monster entertainment unit the way most people would have, the result would have been claustrophobia-inducing.

You gotta get a picture up so we can see's it..

One thing that will lower the room is to paint the ceiling a noticeable shade darker than the walls.
If it's bowling alley like, make the farthest wall a darker complementary color than the other 2 or 3 walls and the ceiling a slightly darker shade of the color used on the other 2 or 3 walls.

You also want to make sure you hang your pictures at eye level.. not craning your neck to look up at them. Often times people hang their pictures way too high on the wall.

Still in all... I wouldn't complain.. I love high ceilings

Most People Wish for aRoom Like That!!!!

Try grasscloth wallpaper on one wall,it seems to warm up a room. Also a nice cluster of Pictures and a nice wall unit well lit with Italian glass or bronzes in it.HIT the Thrift Shops!!!!!!!!!!

Which side are the arches on? Long end or side (or did I totally space on that)?

AND KEEP THE PICTURES LOW! (nothing is worse than pictures which look like they were hung by a giant)
