Aha, a microscope I thought as I rushed over to the counter.

It's even better than a microscope to me. A lovely portable reel to reel. It runs on 4 D cells only and there is no plug in or adaptor point at all which is odd. I forgot to get the microphone out..it resides in the battery compartment area on the back. Even the battery cover hatch is wooden. I can't wait to go get batteries and see if she works and hear what's on that tape is even more intriguing..lol. The brand name is Granada, Voice Lead, 8 transistor. The platen behind the reels is mirror like stainless steel or chrome and not a mark on it only a few minor scratches on the wood which will disappear with some wood oil.

Has no smell..my guess is that it is 60's more than 50's and yes you can fashion it forward by turning the dial to fast forward.
Cool Feild type portable RR machine.Reminds me of an ampex 601.The wood case the "Granada" comes in would be ideal for those old radio station feild jobs!!Now its down to cell phones,"card recorders" such as Nagra and sony.Also remember those GRAND older Nagra -Kulduski RR machines so prized by the movie industry today.The place I work for used them.Had to work on some-Grand old machines-would love to see the insides of the Granada!!From the looks of its wood case-seems like a very nice quality machine.
Granada as far as I know was a UK tv broadcaster and tv supplier/maker. They came into Canada for only a couple of years back in the 70's with tv rental stores in malls and then disappeared, the ploy was why buy a tv when you can rent and have no hassles..course by then there weren't that many hassles with the tv's and the ones they were renting were just rebadged Goldstars etc. I never saw anything else though with their name on it..but the item does have a CSA approved sticker on the back,,Cdn Stds Assoc. so maybe they did bring some other stuff over or just pro equipment, it's made in Japan though.. lol
