Who would've thought.

This morning, whilst browsing the detergent section where I work (I'm a checkout op.), I was reading the package for "Fairy All-in-One" and "Platinum" tablets (the hard tabs with a gel bit in them) and discovered the following on the ingredients label:

>30% Phosphates. Holy Cow! (Or "Shaizen!" as I remarked at the time). None of the other dishwasher detergents have an ingredients list. We have Morning Frest 10 in 1 and 6 in 1 Tabs, MF Powder, Finish tabs (Not classic, but everything else), Finish Rinse-Aid and Machine Cleaner. We used to have Kwit, made by the "Finish" company. Very interesting!

So if your in Australia and required phosphate dishwasher detergent, this is the way to go! I haven't seen any D/W packing with the No Phosphor label on it so far, so maybe they are exempt, that or the labelling scheme doesn't apply. Who knows!

However, according to this "Choice" article from 2009, most of Finish's tabs had phosphates (still). I doubt that now, but hey, who knows? I wonder if the phosphates are the "salting" function...

On a side note, I've purchased some Kwit dishwasher detergent. It's made by the same people that make Finish, but is 1/2 the price. I'm going to test it, and see how it performs. So far, it seems IDENTICAL to Finish (I opened our current package, and this one, and they are the same, both are in plastic containers). This stuff apparently performs 1% better than Finish according to Choice. Hmmm.
