Well folks the BIG Minneapolis Wash-In is now past us (and it was an absolutely FABULOUS!).

I got the Combo unloaded from the truck yesterday and took some pix today.... and I discovered there is good news and bad news about this Combo.

The GOOD news...

After removing the back panel I moved the belts by hand and everything turned easily enough. So then I plugged it in, turned and pulled the timer and......

It lights up!

But better then that the motor came on and made things move!

Looks Great!

I think it is in great shape Keven!
The tub looks to be in fantastic shape.
37,000 btu burner! Wow! She / He won't play around with drying!
I wonder if the burner heats the water also?
Great pictures.
Thanks
Brent

The lower part.

I discovered it has a rather interesting drive system using variable width pulleys to change the drum speed from "wash" to "Spin" almost exactly like a CVT (continuously variable transmission) in a car. VERY COOL![this post was last edited: 5/21/2010-00:29]

Wait, don't get too excited... now for the BAD news....

In a single word: RUST!

(multiple expletives deleted)

You can see the wash basket right through the back (bulkhead?) This is NOT a good thing!

This really bummed me out! I'm pleased I didn't pay a lot more then I did!

HELP?

When running it ALL this stuff blew out of the exhaust on to the ground. Geeze!

It DOES run... it DOES tumble... it didn't spin at first, but I discovered the little motor that pulls the string to change the pulley width (to go into spin) is either weak or everything just needs to be cleaned and lubed. I vote for the latter.

Anyway... I like it a lot, but am really bummed about that rust! there is some rust in other areas, but this seems to be the worst.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
Kevin

Dang,

That is a good bit of rust through.
What is that box? Is this the heater box from the burner?
The rust and holes on to the right of the picture are quite evident, but you could fix this. Metal plus welding does wonders.
Do you have any pictures of the burner and configuration?
The tub is in awesome shape. I am wondering if the rust ate through from all the years of sitting....who knows where.
I think with a little macho engineering....you can get it running without any leaks.
I do have to agree the caulking of the suds window is a little odd.
I also agree with you....this machine was used more than they said in the ad on eBay. I bet they quit using it when the leaks arrived. But then...who knows?
I do think it could be a great machine with a little TLC.
It is beautiful!

Kevin its a wonderful machine. Robert has a whole string of photos on here, when he changed a beast of a drain hose in the bottom of his Whirlpool. She just needs some TLC. I have never seen one of these before in my life, its a good find. Best of luck. alr2903
