The picture of the day pair in avocado is one of my favorite lady Kenmore pears from the 60s. My other favorite pair is my 64 pair of Lady Kenmores in turquoise

Every year from the mid 50s till about 1976 Sears working with whirlpool came out with stunning washer and dryer styling, truly creating machines that Americans wanted to own.

Why do you suppose Sears stopped with designing the consoles and went with the "Star Wars" panels? I am thinking maybe cost, but some other reason?

I've always pondered regards to that ad ... does she really garden in mud, and if so does she (or much more likely a household employee) really wash the clothes and sneakers to be worn again, or does a personal assistant keep a supply of fresh new clothes & sneakers at the ready and the muddy items get tossed out?  Same regards to a household employee and ironing.

I imagine she found gardening to be relaxing after a long day at the studio. Having lived through the depression, she probably wasn't so wasteful as to throw out usable items. By this time, while not a has-been by any means, she wasn't a big star any longer. We don't know what her financial situation was; some stars weren't careful with their money, and no longer could afford a large staff. She may have needed money, and that could be why she did this ad. She may have gone from being wealthy to just upper middle class by that time.
