The dishwasher appears to be in excellent shape.   Lots more photos posted with the ad (on SF Bay Area CL).

I'm with Gansky on this one...

And I do NOT like pink. At all. HOWEVER….I would have zero problem living with that kitchen as-is. And the fridge is killing me….left-hand hinge and all. :D

BTW….that Area of Los Altos..

Is quite nice. Had friends who lived in the neighborhood there and stuff is approaching $2mil. Wondering what the house looks like. Gotta be an early 60s sprawling rancher!

It would be like living in a time warp…really cool, but time does march onward…and of course they have made improvements on appliances since then too. Still yet, they are really nice appliances for the time. Makes you wonder who that house belonged to and why they never replaced anything. Looks much like the appliances in my parents house from the early 60's. Same stovetop, oven and dishwasher for sure, except it was turquoise.

I hope someone can put these to good use

That Princess is as pristine as a Princess can get. Even the beautiful and rare blue vent grille seems to be in perfect condition. When I saw the ad I was impressed by the kitchen as a whole, but being a petulant child my first thought was, "*&# ^&*#!!! Why couldn't that have been an Empress!!!!" I would have bought the whole damn kitchen.

Sprawling Rancher

Allen, yes, I'd say that any custom home in Los Altos from this period would be a sprawling rancher!

My guess is that someone with roots in the third world wants to transform things into a tasteless trophy kitchen full of gold and marble, and transfer the pink to the exterior paint scheme.   Truly a shame considering how pristine this original 1957 time capsule is.

I'm betting it went for closer to $3M, even though it's in the Los Altos flatlands.  The heirs likely made a killing because the mortgage was probably burned decades ago.

The fridge isn't frost free, but it would still be tempting to me if the hinges were on the right.

You suppose that backsplash and countertop are original? I mean, I suppose the owners could have done a reno somewhere along the line and had the cooktop, controls, etc. put back in place but it all seems shockingly contemporary to my eyes.

Cory

I was wondering the same thing about the countertop and backsplash. The tile didn't speak 1957 to me but what do I know.

Original Tile Counter Tops

I have a friend who owns single-story four-plex of +/- 1960 vintage and lives in the large manager's unit in the rear.  He has similar tile counter tops to that pictured above, and it's original.

I thought maybe the counter tops had been re-done too, but when I saw that tile, I knew they had to be original.  Besides, if the owners took such good care of their appliances and cabinetry, the surely didn't need new counter tops after only a few years.

Quite a tasteful look for a custom 1957 suburban home in an upscale area.   My guess is that the original owners were classy, old money, country club/Junior League types.

John, you may be onto something.  Moneyed types in San Francisco used to have summer homes 40 or 50 miles south where it's sunny instead of socked in, which puts this place within range.
