I found this stove on Facebook locally. I have been looking for a "new" stove and I like the styling of this one.

The ad mentions 2 things wrong, the oven gasket needs replacing (I'm guessing that's not tough), but they also say the oven isn't working. That's such a general statement. I don't have much experience with stoves...could it be a burnt out element, or a problem with the oven control, and how difficult and model specific would those parts be?

Any thoughts or advice?

I don't know how to transfer pics on my Chromebook, but I am adding the link.

Guy,
That looks like a nice Frigidaire electric stove. I was just thinking the other day about a Frigidaire stove that we had in about 1960 with a french door oven like this one in your post, however ours wasn’t as fancy as the one you’ve posted.

As far as the oven not working it’s just possible that it could be something as simple as the clock for the automatic oven controls being set on “auto” that is keeping the oven from turning on. If the control is in the auto position then it will only operate during the time that it has been set to go on automatically.

Or it could be a burnt out oven element an easy repair to make, a thermostat that isn’t functioning and needs to be replaced, which could be difficult to find a replacement part for. It would be hard to tell exactly what the problem is until you can actually take a look at it. But if it’s the control being set on “auto” this would be the best case scenario. I lived in a rental in the early 80’s that had 1939 Westinghouse electric stove and fortunately the owners manual was still with the stove. It was a higher end model for ‘39 and it had an automatic oven control and once I set the control on manual it worked! I hope that you’ll have the same good fortune that I had.

Good Luck!

1956 pink French door, 30 inch Frigidaire range

These were certainly pretty ranges. I think this was the first year for the French door design. In fact, as Eddie mentioned it could be a simple as the clock not set correctly for Manual operation of the oven after that simple fix there’s all kinds of other possibilities most common thing would be the Clock switch itself is failed. That’s easy to bypass if you’re electrically Talented.

These were not the best stoves to cook on if you do a lot of cooking, but it certainly is good Looking the French oven design was sort of problematic and not tried by anybody else for that reason and the thick surface unit elements were not nearly as responsive as the thinner Type elements that almost everybody else used.

You wouldn’t be able to get gaskets made precisely for these doors, but we’ve had pretty good luck using similar gaskets and cutting and gluing them in place on the oven doors to make them usable.
