Has anyone done this culinary delight?

Made grilled pizza this past weekend. It was D-E-L-I-S-H~!

Here is my recipe for the dough(made in my KA mixer-Artisan model)

3-1/2 cups flour
1-1/4 cups lukewarm water
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp olive oil
2-1/2 tsp yeast

Mix till forms into a ball.
Let rise once, punch down and let rise again.

Then form and shape into a pizza(or bread).

First

Brush olive oil on one side of pizza. Put onto grill(on low heat) and brown the bottom. Remove from grill, add topping(should be cooked), and put back on grill. Close lid and heat till cheese is melted(watch bottom for overcooking and blackening).

that does look delicious!! Never have thought of that at all. But, wasn't it your b-day around last weekend? Why were YOU doing the cooking instead of SOMEONE else? Gary, you should have been reclininig in a chaise lounge on the balcony/patio sipping maitais, mint julips, or some other exotic drink and have someone pamper you. Maybe the switches need to be toggled again lol.

Bob

Someone did do the cooking on Sunday, my Birthday(Greek style-Pasticcio), but I did my Italian style cooking on Saturday.

I have always wanted to try the pizza on the grill, and it was absolutely wonderful. As I stated, you just have to watch it because it cooks and browns so quickly.

Late Happy Birthday Gary, Pizza looks delicH. What a great idea to have an outdoor project, and something different to feed a few friends. I have my 2nd stove downstairs but the gas line is not yet hooked up. I have not had the guts to use the kitchen oven for a couple of months, its been AWFUL hot. Glad your B'day was a good one. alr2903

Don't threaten ME with a good time!

~Maybe the switches need to be toggled again lol.
Did you perhaps mean the Toggle needs a good switch across his XXX? Bob, in a good enduring relationship partners take turns doing a whole variety of things.

The pizza was outstanding and wasn't as smokey or "meaty" as I had expected it to be.

Since Gary already knows how to make dough I would like to do/make* a Spankopita with home-made dough. MMMMMMMMMMMM!

*try to explain the difference between "make" and "do" [LOL to "baby talk" on that one!] to a non English-speaker. Other languages I believe have ONE verb for both.

Top?

Yep. Cook the pizza first, flip, add the toppings and return to the grill.

If you use any toppings that need to be cooked, you must do that prior to adding to the pizza since it cooks so quickly on the grill, that the topping would remain raw.

I simply added pepperoni and cheese to the pizza, so the ingredients did not need to be cooked beforehand.

Can you cook it ( in direct ) for awhile or?

I cooked it directly on the grate till the bottom was browned evenly, then took it off, turned it over, added the toppings and put it back on the grill on low and put the cover down to melt the cheese.

The pizza browns quickly on the gas grill, so you have to watch it.

Thanks for the compliment on all my washers.

I love the two 806's. The lights are fantastic.

If you use a larger grill, you can move the coals over to one side, and cook the pizzas on the other side. The indirect heat will allow more time for the toppings to cook without burning the crust.

No room for the light weights

Friends hosted a make your pizza on the grill party. Their house is on the water and it can be quite breezy. Most of us were around the toppings like hogs at the trough. A willowy blond took time and care to place her 3 spinach leaves, 5 slices of mushroom, two of tomato and about 10 shreds of parmesan cheese. No goey cheese, no sauce. She opened the door to put her pizza on the grill. The wind caught the pizza crust and the toppings landed in her hair and on the floor. She began again.

A very Happy belated birthday Gary!!

Sorry to have missed your special day, Steve you should have let us know!!!! That Pizza sure looks good!!! Gary, have a great year ahead!!! Terry

And Happy Belated to you Terry

Hope you had a great day.

Check out the thread where Steve made my Birthday cake. It was delish, even though he said it was nothing like his aunt used to make.

A friend of mine said that she uses wheat flour for the pizza dough(I would imagine 1 cup wheat flour to 2-1/2 cups white flour). She states that is gives the pizza crust a better consistency.

Have to try that one next.
