I purchased and have been using this product for laundry for about a month now, and have to say I am quite impressed. For the record, I did not purchase this for the environmental value, rather the "Sensitive" point, as I was getting tired of stinky detergents that don't rinse out. This does, and really well too.

However, I am wondering how this product actually cleans the clothes, as the packing states the product contains "No Enzymes." Does this mean I am "wrecking" my clothes if the product contains Optical Brighteners or Bleaches? (It failed to remove a stain in a white shirt I had).

The product also suggests using Cold or Warm water: Is this purely an environmental statement or is this detergent likely a container of products useless at high temperature?

On a slightly related note, is it possible to use Borax in the wash to remove stains, or does this have potential to ruin fabrics?

I used to use that for a while as I too have really sensitive skin which gets rashes if detergents don't rinse out well.

I found that Aware detergent wasn't good with oily marks, they survive the wash. (I'm a cook so that isn't much use...) Other than that it's pretty good, my parents use it as they both have skin like mine (except that Dad's skin is 87 years old...).

For supermarket brands I prefer Ecostore, made in New Zealand but found in Aussie supermarkets. It works well ,only complaint I had was that it tended to fade my black work shirts over time.

Now I am a convert to Abode laundry powder. I have to get it from the health foods shop, but it works really well and doesn't make me itch or sneeze, a very rare combination. I have tried Omo sensitive and Aldi sensitive (Trimat?), had to return both as they gave me terrible rashes. Omo claimed to be unperfumed yet the stink was overpowering and just would not rinse out even with several extra rinses.

Only hassle now is that my nearest stockist isn't very good at keeping the Abode in stock. Last time I had to buy a 5kg bucket of sensitive powder, normally I buy a 2 kg box of regular. I have VERY grumpy skin yet I find the regular version is quite gentle enough for me. I'm using the sensitive at present, it still works well, I don't really see the difference.

I strongly recommend it.

and fabric softener...

I never used to use fabric softener till I read that some softeners are good at neutralising detergent residue. I now use EnviroClean Fabric conditioner, it isn't waxy gunk like most softeners, it is a runny blue liquid that leaves no obvious residue but helps keep my skin happy.

Since changing to Abode laundry powder and EnviroClean fabric softener, I have noticed a huge reduction in itching and rashes - usually now I have none at all.
