Hi Everyone,

While opening my model 12 to regrease the gears, I tried to be very careful and take each piece out and remember where it goes, but I found a spare on my workbench. It's a small maybe 1/8 long piece of cylindrical black plastic with a groove in one end. It's very short--1/8-1/4 and about the same diameter as the long, thin spring...

Where does it go, and how do I put it back? And did the model 12 originally have plastic or nylon gears?

Thanks (and can y'all please hurry, I'd like to get all the parts back in before the curious toddler and preschooler get home late this afternoon!)

Problem solved

And since I hate hearing that and wondering what the answer was, I'll tell you:

The mystery piece is a tensioner that goes in the hole on the gearbox cover behind a small spring. It puts tension on the armature and keeps the speed constant.

what an appelation

Thanks. Mixmistress of Mixmasters. I love it. I think I'll keep it. You guys are contagious. Now I'm longing for the pink lady Kenmore washer dryer set with the chrome room heater grill attachment and having fantasies about what fun y'all have at wash ins...

And I only dropped in for advice about my oven.

Best,
Sarah

Partially cleaned

Wish I'd taken some very beginning before pictures--it had grease, mold and rust all over it. The guy at the estate sale couldn't believe I wanted it. I found it in a cabinet in the garage. It had one bent beater and the large bowl was in the kitchen half full of scummy water...

I found the mate to the beater at a Nashville Goodwill, had a lot of help from the mixer collectors on the Yahoo WACEM group and...

Just wait for the next photos...

Those aerating bowl-fit beaters

Isn't it beautiful? And I did it all by myself...with a lot of encouragement and help from my friends.

Thanks guys,
Sarah

Wonderful job Sarah. I'm trying not to be a mixer collector but they keep finding me. I haven't too many anyways, here's a list
2 model 9's I believe
model 12 yellow
model 12 chrome
HB (Sears) 12 speed
GE triple mix in rough shape but runs
pink mixmaster junior
and numerous other non descript handhelds, GE, Superior, Iona,
Sunbeam
Kenwood A700d with many attachments
Kenwood A901 with the basics and the blender.

My daily users though are my Bosch Universal and a handheld Rival I picked up at the Goodwill, it actually works the best of the handhelds I think.
