I remember standing outside an appliance store in Cocoa, Florida and seeing a poster of this ad with a motorized teddy bear that was turning "somersaults" in front of the picture of the agitator and the scene around it.

I was surprised to see the "clam shell" console on a '61. I thought that was exclusive to the '63. I would imagine the '62 console is similar...right?

I really love how drastically the designers changed the consoles every year or two. Their parts inventory must have been crazy-huge.

By contrast, I bought my front-loading Frigidaire pair in 2002, upgraded to the TOL dryer in 2004, then bought the top-loading washer in 2006. I can interchange every knob/dial on any of the three machines. They're all identical.

In fact, they didn't change anything cosmetically on the rear-control machines 'til a few months ago.

Maytag viewed all these model year console changes as "economic waste"

Kenmore and GM though... that's a different story!!
