OK, the offer is for either a "Goof Proof" washer, or a "Rapidry" washer.

So, I wonder....how much slower was the "Goof Proof" high spin? Could they have combined Rapidry with "Goof Proof?"

Lawrence, it was all marketing.  The highest spin speed on the goof proof model was about 710 rpms.  Rapid Dry was 1010 rpms.

The trouble with the fast spin model was that it had 3 speed selections, but they were fast/fast, slow/medium and slow/slow.  Slow agitation with that stupid space capsule agitator meant very little agitation hence very little movement for things like pants. The Goof Proof machine offered a fast agitation/slow spin on the wash and wear setting for more flexibility even in a programmed machine. If you used a dryer, Fast/Fast was the best choice anyway.

 

The Frigidaire dryers were good, but the porthole and bottom of the door was way lower than on a GE so unloading into a clothes basket was less convenient because many baskets could only be put in place after the door was opened.

Goof-Proof vs Extra Fast Spin

Hi Lawrence, You could get both in the Custom Imperial model, the pre-programed models were really silly as the fast spinning model was plenty versatile enough to wash anything the other machine could wash.

We had the WCDAN, regular speed spin,

Got it in 1969, it replaced a 55 Pulsamatic. It lasted 17 years, replaced it with a Maytag, which made me hate Maytags for all eternity.
