I'm guessing this must be from around 1957? I think I read that '58 was the last year of the 36" Duomatic before the new narrow-body machine replaced it. Clearly the 30" Gyramatic front-load washer must have been discontinued by this point, at least in the US market. Does anyone know what the "wrinkle-free" feature on the dryer was? I believe I'm right in saying neither they nor the FL washers (or Duomatic) reversed...

Great question. The ad in the POD is from 1958, which IMO is a really strange time for Philco-Bendix. The appliance division of both companies were in their first year of merger. Philco kept their ball point agitator washer for one more year (shown in the POD), and the Bendix portion of things kept the 36" Duo AND the Gyromatic but in '58 had dropped the Power Surge TL washer. I've only seen drawings of the '58 Gyromatics in either ads or the back of user manuals, but the parts books do list a few different Gyro models for the '58 year.

By '59 the Gyro was gone, the 36" Duo was gone, the Philco ball point agitator washer was gone, and the revised Duo and '56 Power Surge based, high frequency TL washers were introduced.

From the beginning up until the end in '67/'68, all front load US Bendix washers tumbled in one direction - clockwise.

"wrinkle-free"

Feature on the dryer was the condensing dryer. Its vary steamy so most fabrics won't wrinkle.

Wrinkle free drying meant that the dryers heated to the proper temperature for finishing wash and wear fabrics (160F) and had a cool down at the end of the cycle ( 5 or more minutes) so that fabrics did not end up in a hot heap and rewrinkle.  There were no condensing Philco dryers other than the Duomatics that I know of and if there were condensing dryers, they would cost a hell of a lot more than this price.
