If you read into the text, you will see that Whirlpool Washers and Dryers were "Made by the Famous Nineteen Hundred Corporation." I mentioned this in the discussion of the Whirlpool Wringer Washer, but here it is in the primary source, the text of the ad.

I like the mention of the Ultra-Violent Germicidal Lamp. It made me wonder what the purple death ray was doing (little of nothing, it turns out). In Clockwork Orange, when "Ultra Violence" was mentioned, I thought of this lamp.

I can only imagine that the 'ultraviolent germ-killing magic lamp' was the brainchild of a Don Draper type who wanted to push why the fancy-shmancy automatic washer was so much better than the antiquated 'ringer' washers that we still see turn up in craigslist ads these days... LOL

Maybe the ozone /UV lights are needed in some stinky modern washers! It may help when the washer isn't in use and the owner insists on keeping the door closed. The light would run for a period of time-not all of the time. The light would come on for a few hours after the door is closed. It would not work when the door is open.I can understand if the owner has pets or small children-keeping the door shut prevents them from crawling inside-and surprising a non attentive owner when they start the machine.
