Whatever happened to this philosophy? Shows men over time can be corrupted and when these were built companies still cared about customer satisfaction and building a quality product. Have we really advanced ?

Yes,

they cared then about profts also. It was easier for us all then. Ther were several billion fewer of us. Harder to please so many more.
