OK, I learned from a Malleys Thread on the Imperial Forum that this machine dates from 1955 and that Malleys was associated with Whirlpool, but I do not see any Whirlpool genetics in this machine. Can someone from down under explain this machine's heritage? I understand that it was in no way related to the similar looking US machines labeled Launderall, but who came up with this machine and what does it look like inside the cabinet? Thank you.

I have a few of these, with one hooked up and working. There was a couple of generations, I have this early model that uses a float and mercury switches for the water level and also a later model from 1962 that uses a pressure switch.
As far as I can tell, these machines were of an Australian design, the partnership with Whirlpool didn’t start until 1960, which was when the 1000 series of top loaders were released. These H Axis machines seemed to have totally stopped production by 1965.
I’ve attached some pictures, it essentially is a two motor machine, with an overdrive pulley between them. One motor for wash and one for spin. When the machine is heating, it stops all other action. All functions are timer controlled.

Nathan, Thank you for sharing the information and pictures. That is a beautiful machine. Could you please tell us what picture number 4 shows with that plate with the two little bumps? With the way the section of the tub opens over it, could it be a clean out for the sump/pump? When the machine spins, does water come up around the loading door? Hi Tom. You are right, that is a pump trap/guard, it pops out for cleaning. You can also remove the heating element via the bottom hole if it needs replacement.
It has fully drained before it switches from wash to spin, you get lots of spray on the lid, I have a Perspex cover to put on there, but unfortunately because of the splashing, you can’t see anything.

Nathan, thank you. Your mention of the float reminds me of our waterfall front Kenmore. Once when the Sears service person was there, I was watching when he had the top open and I saw the float in its little chamber. When I tried to describe it to my parents, they dismissed it as an impossibility, but between the float and the "FILL" position in the first 10 minutes of the 20 minute wash portion on the timer, it provided water level flexibility.
Was the Rinso detergent as shown in the advertising as high sudsing as Rinso was here? Did the foam interfere with the washing action? Was it possible to stop the machine to add items once it had started washing? Does the machine reverse tumble directions? With no suspension, did it vibrate during spin? What was the spin speed?

Hi Darryl,
From cold to 140deg, you generally allow about 45 minutes with a 2400watt element. To start heating, you push the white button next to the temperature dial. So I generally let it tumble for one increment first, then start the heating which stops the tumbling. So you basically get a soak from Cold to hot before the cycle continues. There is a nipple available to connect a hot fill hose to the machine, but that is a manual process. You would turn the tap on and fill it to just below the hub on the drum, then turn the tap off.

Rinso was a high sudsing detergent, the instructions suggest less than 1/3 cup of detergent and only until you see some bubbles on the outside of the drum. To add clothes to the drum once its started, you turn it off at the power point. The timer only cuts power outside the cycle, it has no in/out on/off position otherwise. The machine tumbles in one direction only and the tub doesnt stop through the cycle, just the speed changes. From memory, the spin speed is about 250rpm although I'd have to find the service manual to confirm. It is bolted down on all 4 corners of the machine, with half inch bolts. With that level of both down, I've never had it vibrate badly during a spin.
