From the exstatic look on her face, I am guessing the Maytag Man, not Tide, came inside another one of her "appliances" as well, and he with the smug grin and flushed cheeks. She'll need the Tide for sure for the next load. 50's advertizements were such double enterndre, subliminal hints and suggestions. Or perhaps I have a sick mind. I just thought this was a funny subliminally sexual ad, perhaps lost on many who have a clean mind.

i was ready to go along with your line of thinking, until i saw the William Frawley lookalike Maytag man in the ad.

Fred Mertz/William Frawley

Fred Mertz was a sex symbol in terms of 50's standards for men, certainly a hottie for the woman in this ad, who looked more like leave the beaver alone instead of leave it to beaver. Still waters ran deep in the Eisenhour era, I guess.

Fred was supposed to be a henpecked, grumpy old dude, but if you remember, he got a LOT more assertive once they all moved to Connecticut...remember him ordering Lucy to run down to the feed store and "get me two BROODERS, right now"? lol....
