This is one of the many "Just Push the Button" appliance ads that proliferated in the late 50's and 60's. We were so anxious to fully particiapate in the space age back then that the push-button world was way ahead of the reliable technology needed to support it. There were no microprocessors and few solid state controls. Pressing the key typically activated solenoids, mechanical switches, levers, and other various high clunk factor devices. As a side note, these ads would be very sexist to run today, but if I were the housewife, I'd check out why my husband's co-worker is gazing so intently into his eyes.

I wouln't worry about the boys being boys.

If I were in a suit that was intended for a Permanent Press cycle (esp in the days when home A/C was still a luxury and not widespread), I'd have to stare too so as resist the urge to pass out from the heat and humidity trapped against my body by those "modern miracle man-made fibers."

I remember well those fibers, and the lack of air conditioning in most places as well. But then, I think about all the clothes people wore in the 1800's and early 1900's, which often included a union suit as underclothing. One wonders if there were a lot deaths from heat exhaustion in the summer, or did we just adapt to all that clothing. Also, I mean no offense regarding the ad, just a little humorous observation that my partner had. Now if one wants to see something sexist, the Youngstown Kitchens Dishwasher video submitted by foraloysius really takes the cake. Great movie!
