Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Westinghouse Washer

Were these washers good performers as far as washing ability and lint filtering, etc.? I would still say the Filter-Flo would be better since it moved continuously.

I don't know about White-Westinghouse,but the Westinghouse my family had 20 yrs. ago was a good cleaner. The filter was effective.

Though looking at this picture i see that WCI kept the control panels, tub, agitator, etc, etc pretty much the same as the original.

Woohoo!! I should travel back to '76 or so, go to Bamberger's, and get this thing while the offer lasts (and before WCI introduces the plastic tub)!!!

I always thought Westinghouse machines were cool because of the lint catcher, spray fill, and the unusual washing action.

Sigh! You can't go to Bam's anymore. Bamberger's was what Macy's stores in New Jersey, Delaware, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Nanuet, NY used to be called. Bam's was a Newark, NJ store that was bought by Macy's in the 1920's. They kept the Bamberger's name until the 1980's. Sadly Macy's not only no longer sells appliances, but several of the Bamberger's locations mentioned in the ad (Morristown and Plainfield) closed during Macy's mid-1980's bankruptcy proceeding. (I'm not sure, but either they changed the name of their Princeton location or it moved to the nearby Quakerbridge mall.)

Macy's changed the name of their Atlanta based Davison's chain to Macy's around the same time that Bam's disappeared. Sadly, Burdines, Rich's, The Bon Marche, Jordan Marsh, Goldsmith's, Lazarus, Horne's and several other chains have all forever disappeared from the retail landscape and are all now called Macy's. :(
