This Westinghouse top loader is the same one my neighbor up the street(Ms. Parks)replaced her 1954 Laundromat with.It had these strange little colored pins inserted in the inner tub which was porcelain. The pins were plastic and had been snapped or rivited into the tub's perferations. I never found out what they were for but they looked sourt of cool.

Colored pins

These were used with the water level. On the lid was a legend for the pins assoicated with the water setting. If your loaded dry clothes came up to that pin color you looked at the legend and set the water level accordingly. These were prior to the "weigh to save lids".
