Good sturdy range, and best of all it doesn't have a useless 8" element in the rear or a stupid oven window to get dirty and loose heat.
These GM built Electra-Clean ovens were about the only ones that cleaned better than GEs P-7 ovens.

I have a similar one (but mine is a Deluxe with two 8" burners). John is right about the burners, I never use the rear 8" but my limited cooking abilities also mean I never need 4 burners at the same time so... And I have to say I really like it. Jon is keeping for me a similar Custom Deluxe that has a full glass control panel and that used to have a "Heat Minder" burner. I hope to get it very soon and I'm ready to re-install a NOS Heat Minder control on it too!

I'm either blind or the back burners on that stove are larger than 8".
Looking at that poppy-red stove, I see a larger burner on the front right, a smaller burner on the front left and to me, what looks like 2 smaller burners in the back.
So, what size are the burners on this stove, in the back? I only see one large burner, as well- instead of one larger in front right and one large in back left(like our apartment GE stove).
Thanks for educating me on burner size for this stove.

Phil, the poppy stove has three 6" burners and one 8" in the front as it is often the case with lower end models like this. But that's how John likes it because he mostly needs the 6" burners just like I do. I grew up with my parents constantly using one of the 2 front 8" burners on their Enterprise electric stove. They rarely used the 6" at the back because they were at the back I guess... But they should have used them as they often wasted heat and burners were red hot where they didn't contact the small pots they were usually using. And worse, they used their cheap GSW Coronet cookware which didn't have flat bottoms. This Coronet set would have been good for cooking on a camping stove but they had an even cheaper set for the purpose!

PhilR- gotcha. Our apt. GE stove has 2 diametrically opposed 7.5" and two 5 3/8" burners. I assume these are the 6" and 8" burners all stoves have, or did they shrink the calrod coil diameters in the newer stoves?
I see now. I think I like two 8" and two 6" - it's how we cook, maybe - what's used more often. At the house in Royal Oak, we have a GE stove that has one large burner( 8") up front that has a three position dial to get an increasing concentric coil of heat. Very interesting - whatever it's called. I like that feature, as it allows one to use the large 8" burner and not criticize that it's wasting energy for smaller pots. I just wish that this feature was also available for the back left 8" coil. If I knew this was a feature one could easily add to other burners, I'd gladly add it to that stove..sorry, slightly swerving off-subject.

Hi Phil, actually it would be fairly easy to add this feature to the LR element by changing and adding parts, you could even just reverse the elements so the LR would utilize the three size switch and make the RF element 8" all the time. This would make more sense for many users since it is hard to have a large enough pan or skillet on the LR element, but is never a problem on the RF element, I have the parts if you want to do any of this.

Hi John - So is that feature of varying heat called a 3-size element? I would like to add that feature - or maybe swap. Let me mull it over, as I'll be looking at the stove for a few days in the first week of June, visiting family in Royal Oak, MI.
While at it, I have a question - that stove has a lamp that, once you press the light switch, it comes on and as soon as the push-button is released, the light goes off ...it might stay on for a glint half-second. Would that be just replacing the neon lamp or is it a starter(if that's what they call the gizmo that gets the neon lamps to charge and light).

Hi Phil you need a new bulb, there is no starter on this type of lamp, you are the manual which is why you have to hold the button in for a few seconds when you turn it on.

Phew, that's a relief - someone (not us) said they replaced the bulb - but I'm sure it was a used one.
