What was model name of the portable General Electric solid state Record player with automatic changer that my aunty had came out in the early 1960's or protest era that could play 33,45 and 78 records with a orange baseboard in a khaki case called?

Heeeeyyyyy that’s the same one I had decades ago, and what fun stacking six, in fact SEVEN records on that changer falling asleep to both sides of each one, in which I kept it until I realized I would someday need a new needle and thought how expensive and scarce one would be, as I’d also taken pride in my vinyl that I refrained from stacking though these were records I didn’t really care for, I merely eschewed in favor of only playing things I entirely like!

It was called a Swingmate......

The Partymate was the non automatic one step down. The Swingmate was introduced in 1965, and ran until about 1975. The one you pictured is a model from the early 70s. They were offered in a few different colors, and features and such varied a little in that 10 year period. The earliest had a metal tone arm, and a single rotary type speed and on off, reject control in the bottom right corner of the changer deck. Then the tone arm became plastic in and around 1966, and the round rotary type dial became separate flip type controls. Also, three types of cartridges were used. The first was a mono Astaic, the other two were made in house by GE. I have an earlier one from 1968, that is in a more uncommon burgundy color, and has the Asatic cartridge. I will post pictures of that, and examples of an early one too.

I asked Santa for one

in 1967. I was told he couldn't get enough. Same thing next year, but I did get a nice Sears by Aurora AFX slot car set. For Christmas of '69, we got a family gift of a Sears Silvertone fold up 4 speed automatic stereo phonograph. Avocado green, plastic case, 9 inch platter. Flip over floating cartidge diamond needle for 78's. It always flew off the tone arm.

Portable GE record players

I still have my childhood GE Wildcat. It still works perfectly, I had to clean the switches once and of course I've replaced the needle. (which I have about a dozen spares) here it is at Christmas with a 45 that it has played countless times. As a kid I would pick up the overarm and let it continuously play..lol
