Hi folks,
I have recently started trying a different detergent called Spree, it is Colgate-Palmolive's mid-range powder and so far I have found it to be very satisfactory and it has a really nice fragrance called fresh breeze.
I think it is Colgate's answer to Unilever's Surf which I have also tried to satisfaction.
I wonder if it is worth paying more for premium brands i.e. (here in Oz anyway),like Cold Power,Dynamo(which I hate incidentally),Omo and Drive.
If you can get reasonable results and save a bit of money why not?,I am not sure if brand loyalty is really all it is cracked up to be.
Do you good folk here prefer and always go for premium brands or are you happy to give a lesser brand a go?
I am also impressed that Spree has a fair range of fragrances to choose from as well it comes in the fresh breeze I mentioned earlier, fresh lemon, lavender, and Spreematic for F.L.'S in a tropical fragrance(I think).
Cheers folks.
Steve.

I love the Spree frwsh breeze, i used it a lot when i had the hitachi, i used to buy a little 1kg box for 2 bucks and it lasted ages and still got my whites white. A alternated between the Apple and Fresh Breeze scent, which reminded me of early 90's Persil scent. If i ever had a top loader of my own again i would definately buy Spree.

Hey Steve, I often look at the cheaper brands and sometimes buy them but always go back to Omo it really cleans. I think in this day and age our clothes are really not that dirty we change our clothes so often that a bit of grime would not be hard to cleans with a basic detergent. However get some wine or sauce and you need Omo or a cheaper detergent with and additive like Nappysan but Omomatic gets the job done. Like you I cant stand Dynamo or Cold Power love Surf wish they had a Surf Matic liquid. Omomatic liquid is also ok but wish it was a gel like Surf. Spree matic is lavender and is not that great unless you like a toilet air freshner wash. Take care Jim

Made in Australia

Hello Peter,
I have just read the Spree box and it states made in Australia by Colgate Palmolive.
That is actually curious, I wonder if thye will dispose of their brands here it may be the end of my Spree(wouldn't you just know it).

Well, P&G doesn't seem to have much of a detergent presence down under....maybe Colgate-Palmolive fills a profitable void.

Here in the States, we have a brand called Sun that I use for everyday- most clothes just need the body funk washed away. I use the "Fresh Scent" liquid, not the powder. It's made by a company called Huish (based in Salt Lake City, Utah) that makes a lot of private-label and major-label detergents under contract. The Sun stuff works very well for everyday laundry, even really dirty stuff if I add some Arm & Hammer washing soda.

I SWEAR Huish's Sun brand chlorine-free bleach sold at Family Dollar is the old Clorox II formulation (before Clorox II got stunk up with that retch-making floral scent); it smells and performs exactly the same. I think Huish makes Clorox II for Clorox (I'm glad to stand corrected if I'm wrong); maybe they appropriated or licenced the old formula for themselves.

What's funny about the Sun bleach is that only Family Dollar sells it in the old Clorox II scent, SFAIK. When I hit Family Dollar, I stock up on five or ten boxes at a time. Other stores carry Sun in another scent- similar to the current Clorox II- that makes me want to heave.

"Ohhhhh, smoked oysters! They turn me emerald GREEN!..."

Ive used Spree for front loaders and I thought it was awful. And not that great for cleaning out stains like Frontloader said.

I dont mind Dynamo but I find that Radiant for front loaders is pretty good for a not to expensive price. Omo does a really good job but you have to pay for it.

As with most things I think you go middle of the road you cant go too wrong.
