Another mystery from the past.

I just remembered when I was a kid, we had a cannister vacuum. It was maroon, very round, looked very much like a jet engine with its tapered tail. It was of the Electrolux style, but more cylindrical, and had a cloth covered, maroon hose. I remember that the hose fittings and attachments had very heavy duty, chromelike slide fittings.

It had no wheels, but steel runners. It had a chrome handle on top that blended with the trim that ran all the way, longways, across the top.

I swear it said PRESIDENT on the side.

Does this sound familiar at all? I think the vacuum eventually went to my oldest sister many years ago, when she first moved out.

Pete you are too much once again!

THANKS for that link. I have been trying to do research on this and found zip. Our model had a similar hose to the Model 23/51. I would bet ours was more of an entry level model, as it did not have chrome like the ones shown here. It was more plain but cool. I remember it being rather loud, but very good suction. It ended up being our downstairs vac, with mom's new Eureka doing the rest. Mom was also a big fan of "Electric Brooms" as she used to call them.

Made in England huh? Pete, were these big in Canada? I never remember seeing another one here. My one Grandfather was from Canada, could he have bought this on a trip up there? Hmmm. Maybe there are more of these in the US than I thought, but I sure don't remember any other than ours.

I've never heard of them either but doesn't mean they werent sold here or in the US. For the most part growing up in a small town most of the vacs I saw at friends places were Kenmores, Hoovers, GE's or Elux's. I noticed on the Kenmore page of that website my moms old model Kenmore, the Satellite from 55-56. Also that a couple of those Kenmore models were also made in England or Scotland.
