Hi guys I am curious to find out what the new Comfort Sun Fresh fragrance is like. If some one has smelt it please describe want to order on line. Thanks

Comfort Sun Fresh

This is very very similar (identical) to Comfort Fast Dry which has now been discontinued. This was pretty similar to Comfort Vitality, the one before! It's a three times relaunched product.

The scent is intense. It's very fresh and I quite like it, but I think it has an unwanted side effect of sometimes drying a little vomitty. My wife rejected it as being too strong for her tastes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply Nick. I used fast dry when over in holland and ddid not like it at all. It kinda smelt like off vanilla. The search is still on.

The only fragrances I like are the original Blue forumlation, and the Pink lily & riceflower formulation. Both smell like a fabric softener should, and indeed do a grand job at softenering laundry (even more than Lenor, dare I say).

Jon

Blue I have bought and did not really care for it smells like comfort here the lily and rice flower was nice. I recently bought Lenor Summer Breeze and really enjoy that. Jon I cant believe you dont like new Ariel powder it smells great. Maybe your like me and just dont like change. A couple of years ago they change Omo fragrance it's not that it is a bad smell it just isn't Omo any more cleans really really well but I think that freshness is missing. Now I just buy UK and US detergents my poor bank balance. I look forward to coming to the UK and spending hours in the supermarket buying detergent to freight back to Australia and not pay air freight

Comfort

Hello, frontloader812.

I have all varieties of Comfort and Lenor in stock because I've been trying to work out which are my faves.

Same as you, of the Lenors I like the Lenor Summer Breeze variety, I'd would name this one as my favourite Lenor scent. I would also say that concentrate Lenor is the softener which is `best' at what it does - softening, helping clothes which are dried naturally not to dry stiff, and giving excellent anti static properties. There are now 5 Lenor scents in total, and the old `Sensitive' Lenor has been relaunched as Fairy Conditioner.

Comfort is, I believe, available in 9 varieties in the UK! Something for every taste? In general I do prefer the scent line up of Comfort to Lenor, though there isn't yet a softener which meets my total approval. I would say of the Comforts I would choose the Pure Variety as the one I use most, and I have all of them in stock. Personally, I have an issue with all Comfort softeners which is that I find they leave a creamy foamy residue on certain black garments.

Another favourite of mine is `Surcare' fabric softener which is unscented, so when I'd like my laundry to smell of a favourite detergent,I'll use that one. The problem with it is that it's not a superb fabric softener - it's the light touch.

Three fave softeners, then, are Lenor Summer Breeze, Comfort Pure and Surcare in no particular order of preference.

I also like the Henkel `Vernel' concentrates but have only tried two.

I suppose my ideal softener would be the Lenor concentrate formulation, but with a new light cuddly scent which really works for me. Every one of my fave scents which are currently available has a drawback.

I'd love it if you could tell me (us) more about what's available in Australia - I really have very limited knowledge of this.

Thanks

Nick

I did actually like the scent of the new Ariel powder - however there was a point where I was ill a couple of months ago, and my bedlinen had just been washed in it and now I assosciate the Ariel smell with being sick - sad, I know, but true! Plus, the new Ariel doesn't seem to rinse out as well as Persil - which is the reason why I prefer Persil :-). But the *best* detergent smell ever has to be Ariel liquid - this has hardly changed since I first remember using it, and it has also survived the Ariel relaunch so hopefully it's here to stay!

In terms of softener - Comfort Blue is my favourite simply because it is the one I grew up with - and the smell reminds me of snuggling up to my nana when I was a toddler and smelling the Comfort off her cardigan! Comfort Lily & Riceflower is a favourite of mine too, because it is similar to Comfort Blue in many ways, but the smell is different enough to be a change, and it is also (I find) the least sickly of the Comfort scents available.

Downstairs, my mum uses a combination of Persil Non Bio and Comfort Pure in the Bosch, as well as Surf Cool Fresh at the moment for whites (we usually get either Ariel tablets or Persil bio powder for whites downstairs, but at the time we bought the Surf we didn't have enough left in the week's budget so were having to go cheap at the supermarket). I must say Persil non bio is one of my favourite powders - hardly any scent but it cleans very well, and the rinsing is superb.

I believe you have the same washer as I do, don't you? A Miele with pushbuttons and an LCD display where you select the temperature/spin speed, except yours has the angled control panel? Mine is a W2652WPS, with a flat control panel.

Nick - still haven't been able to get any "foam" on my darks from Comfort, even with overdosing on the softener! I'm trying desperately now to get this to happen, believe it or not - what is your usual dose and/or load size?

Jon

Hey Guys thanks for all the info.

Nick
In Australia Colgate Palmolive dominate the fabric softener market there is Cuddly which is the premium softner which comes in 5 varieties, Sunshine Fresh, Freshness of Aloe, Rain Forrest, Lavender with Ylang Ylang and Jasmine with Brgamont. Then there is Fluffy this brand was originally started by Campell Bros an Australian company it soon became Australia's Favourite Fabric Softener according to the bottle, CP bought the brand along with some of there detergents and have not changed anything about it. I think it became popular because it was the first softener that came in a 2 litre bottle and was a dollar or so more. Fluffly comes in 7 varieties Mountain Spring, Soft Petal, Jasmine Fresh, Apple Blossom, Summer Breeze, White Lavender and Pure and Gentle. Then there is Comfort for some reason Unilever has almost forgotten fabric softener and Comfort was the first fabric softener introduced to Australia way back then, they have 2 varieties Classic Fresh (Blue) and Silk (Pink) they don't even have bottles any more just cartons very poor. Makes me sad. Unilever is our market leader in detergent with Omo leading the pack we have, Surf which looks alot like yours and Drive. Colgate Palmolive have Dynamo, Cold Power, Fab and Spree. We also have other smaller players in the market such as Cussons they have Radiant and DUO. Most detergents are high sudsing as top loaders are the norm here how ever with water conservation a hot topic over here people are starting to upgrade to front loaders so more brands are making a "Matic" version of there detergent. We tend to favour powders and all our powders are concentrate requiring just a small scoop per wash. Liquids are also Structured I prefer a gel. I will photgraph some of my collection if you like.

John
Yes your videos of your Miele inspired me to part with the cash and purchase a washer and dryer mine is a W2653 and T4653 I love them they are quick and quiet well worth the money. You would love the combination of Omo Liquid and Comfort Blue really great combination.

Question time

Does Ariel Non Bio have a fragrance?
Have you smelt Lenor In the pink?
What is Bold and Daz like?

Thanks Jim
I just realised I hadn't given my name how rude of me sorry.

Hi Jim!

Yes - Ariel non bio (or Sensitive as it is now called) has a soapy sort of fragrance - quite nice actually! It is also the only other safe detergent I can use on the family laundry - however at the same time it doesn't rinse out *as* well as Persil, and also the fragrance lingers for longer, so I tend to go with Persil Non Bio for the family wash as it really is the purest detergent you can get, without resorting to the eco-friendly ones which can't wash for toffee!

Have smelt Lenor in the Pink - don't like it personally, it smells a lot like the fruit and vegetable aisles of the local supermarket! A nice smell, but not on clothes, if that makes sense?

Bold, Daz and Fairy are nice - although all three do make me itch somewhat. Fairy is supposed to be a baby detergent but it actually gives me one of the worst allergic reactions I ever get to detergent! Makes me itch to eternity! Daz is nice, although again it can itch but it does have a vintage smell. Bold is awful at fading colours, and is supposed to have a built in softener although it isn't that effective IMO/IME. The Lavendar one smells like toilet cleaner to me, and the Apple and Lime Zest again smells like a fruit and veg stall - a nice smell but not something I'd want on my laundry! The only Bold smell I like is ocean Clear, which is actually a nice detergent smell and I occasionally use it on towels and linens. Not a bad detergent, and doesn't make me itch as much as Fairy or Daz, but as I said if you want your clothes to keep their colour then Bold isn't really the one to choose! :-).

Take care, feel free to drop an email if you want!

Comfort Pearls capsules are available in the UK and Ireland in Blue and Lily and Riceflower fragrances in boxes of 10. "

Description
Comfort Pearls are the new simple way to add softness and freshness to your clothes.
Just place one Comfort Pearl into the drum on top of your clothes before starting your wash programme.
It will get to work from the start, right at the heart of the wash. It will gently melt away, infusing your clothes with Comfort softness and freshness.

Preparation
Use one capsule per load of washing along with your usual detergent.
Place the capsule into the washing machine on top of the wash load, towards the back of the drum.
Don't put the capsule into the drawer!
Select your main-wash cycle use a programme without a pre-wash setting. Not suitable for woolwash or delicate cycles.

AND for those of a technical mind:

Hi Peter,

I don't like the Comfort Pearls either - not only don't they soften well because most of the softener is rinsed out by the end of the cycle (like with other 2 in 1 powders here such as Bold and Fairy), they also seem to hamper the washing action because of the extra softener in the wash and therefore decrease the efficiency of the detergent. I just stick to my good old blend of Persil powder or Ariel liquid for the wash, and Comfort in the fabric conditioner dispenser :-).

Lenor is OK, only scents I can just about bear are Stayfresh (green) and Summer Breeze (yellow) - but I find that Comfort not only smells nicer (especially the blue and pink versions), but softens better too. Have also heard from somewhere that Lenor contains some sort of irritant chemical that can seep through your skin - kinda scary!!

(Now Lenor Easy Iron was my favourite softener ever - I love it, and still have a stash of it which I use occasionally - I just wish that they didn't discontinue it!!).

Ecover softener is good too, if you can get hold of it. Doesn't have much of a smell to it - but softens extremely well even with a small amount and most of all is environmentally friendly too!

Hope this helps,

Jon

Coumarin

is the fragrance ingredient which I have read is absorbed through the skin, Jon, but I've since found out that this is present not just in Lenor (my mistake) but in lots of softeners.

Fabric Softner Brands....

Comfort
Snuggle
Downy
Cuddly
Huggle
Fluffy
Slap'n'tickle....

..ok so i made the last one up, but there is kind of a link with all those other brand names. So why, then, is there one called.......

Lenor! It means nothing! It's not about cuddling or snuggling or anything. What a dumb name for a product. Discuss.

So Mike, that means you use Comfort Pearls in every wash? ;)

I'm thinking that they are relying on soap to do the softening, having a certain amount to tie up the detergent and leaving enough behind to stick to fabric and not wash away. The phosponates probably keep the water softer to prevent gummyness.

I'm very tempted to go hogwild again buying more Brit stuff, especially when I see "sale" on that website! I hope a box full of liquid detergents and softeners can make it through shipping without springing a leak. My tablet order last autumn was a little tussled around.

Jon: see my comments in the tablet thread.

Slap 'n Tickle!!! I'd buy it!

Pearls!!

Missing the point boys...

The new Comfort Pearls have a special outer coating, made of duraviturnam cylinium that only bursts open when its senses one rinse from the end of cycle...simple really...

I do chop and change powders & conditioners, am using Persil non bio liquid and Comfort Pure at the moment, catering size so cheap at Makro I use it to wash up with...if I had to choose a mainstay it would be Ariel bio Powder and Comfort pure.

I hark back to the days in the 70`s when washing powder & conditioner looked like this!!!Creamy Powder and turquoisy blue Conditioner...Aaahhhhhh...

What is it with Bold and their ludicrous fragrances? I am wating for the Cauliflower Cheese fragrance or Bacon Butty. I used to LOVE the old blue box Bold fragrance as it was fresh and lasted for days on clothes. You are right, the 'softener' is useless and always has been so I used to use a fragrance free softener with old Bold so as not to mask the smell. I would never use Bold now with their strange smells

I think it can be a bit tricky combining detergent and softener successfully - some of the combinations are truly dreadful and smell like wet cat litter if you get it wrong. I think my fave is Fairy liquid and yellow Lenor which is a bit yummy on the clothes. As for Ariel's new fragrance, it grew on me and it is so superior at cleaning IMO that I can live with it. Haven't used Persil for a while so can't remember. I wish that Lever and P & G would go retro and go back to the old smells of yesteryear. I used to love the smell of Drive and Omo (neither available in UK anymore) and Daz has been improved so may times I am surprised you even need to put it in the machine any more; just show it to the dirty clothes and the dirt dissolves before your very eyes.

I LOVE the smell of Aussie Cold Power and used it often when I lived there. I also liked Fab 3 and Radiant. When I was poor I used Hurricaine, which was very good actually. Happy days..................
