I have been wanting some of the macaroni tomato and beef casserole that we had in elementary school a zillion years ago, so I made it today...First I browned 1 pound ground beef with 1 large onion chopped fine, while that was cooking I boiled 1-8 oz pkg of macaroni about 1/2 done, I drained it, then added it to the hamburger mixture with 2 cans crushed tomatos, about 2 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp garlic salt, 1 tsp celery seed and a good grinding of pepper, cover and simmer about 30 minutes, I baked a cake of cornbread and it made a good easy meal. How do you like my square Revere skillet, A gift from Ron Jones..I Love it!!

School Cafeteria Goulash! Ah, yes; I remember it well...which is why I went in search of a recipe for it a few years ago. Mine is similar to yours. Simple comfort food: It's what's for supper. Minus the hair nets.

That square Revere is awesome.

Funny Sometimes....

What we come to love and remember.

With me, my favorite grade-school cafeteria memory is the boiled cabbage. Yes, ya whippersnappers, there was a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and kids ate stuff that adults told them to eat because it was good for them.

I was always very popular on boiled-cabbage day, because we had a clean-plate rule (in a public school, yet!) and I could be counted on to surreptitiously trade a dessert for more cabbage. I absolutely loved the stuff.

And still do.

On the other hand, do not get me started on the subject of canned cream corn. I gagged more of that hideous stuff down under the steely glare of Mrs. Joanne Price than I care to remember. I still hate canned cream corn. And I'm still not crazy about Mrs. Price, either.

Yuk Creamed Corn

I will use it when I cook, occasionally, but I will not eat it as is. It always looked like it was already consumed once, and redopisted back into the can. Just Sayin!

Cream corn--EHHHHHHWWWWW-Does look like it was regurgitated back into the can.BOILED CABBAGE--I remember that stuff from elementry school--HATED IT!!And I didn't have the choice of eating at the boweling alley! You can have my helping of boiled cabbage!

I just found a square Revere skillet (only one) on Ebay for $249.99 w/ free shipping.  Another thing on my "to find" list.  Thanks alot Hans.

Square Revere Skillet:

That is one of two "real" Revere pieces made back in the day that shows whether you're a really serious Revere collector. As you've found, it's not easy to find, and it's usually not cheap.

The other is the griddle, which is a little easier to locate than the square skillet. It's a beautiful piece - expensive, but not as much so as Hans's new goodie:
