Has anyone ever had any experience with the early 60s RCA Whirlpool electric ranges....the ones with the controls on the side and the funky clock that is raised above the backsplash , similar to the TOL washers and dryers.?They are so different looking from most ranges of that time .

I am not positive about this, but I think that those ranges baked without top heat like your Kenmore. John probably can confirm or debunk this.

If I remember correctly, those were the last RCA-built ranges out of the old Estate factory in Hamilton, Ohio. When Whirlpool started offering ranges again, they were built in the Kelvinator-WCI factory.

When my friend Sam & his family moved into an older house about 15 years ago, there was an early 60's Whirlpool 30" range there, as you describe. They used it for a couple years, then something shorted out in the cooktop portion, with it shooting out sparks, and tripping the breaker. They didn't look into fixing it as they said they didn't like it much.

Oh its!

NOT something I really plan on using, but its clean and odd looking, and for 25.00 the units are worth that, wire in Chromalox units!

Well,

We went to Mebane this afternoon and for 25.00 I have something else I didn't need, its just so odd I couldn't resist, it may never be used, but other than a chip in front of the large unit, its in remarkably good shape, all original Chromalox units and the oven looks about new..

We went!

Right by the old factory tonight, they are restoring the building, its right in the middle of town, White made really beautiful and high quality stuff, as did Craftique also in Mebane.

Hans, I stopped by a thrift store today that used to be the Habitat for Humanity thrift, but now it is something else and has sorta gone to hell since I was last there, meaning no more appliances, but anyway I was walking through it and spotted this dresser that had beautiful lines, in spite of having been through hell. I pulled open a top drawer and there it was "White Fine Furniture" and I knew why it still had that spark even in that hell hole with not one desirable item in the whole place.
