I'm going to be sometime real soon, having a WP Calypso being given to me. I remember someone Posting about having one of these either the WP or Kenmore Model and Posting about how you Bypassed the Lid Switch, which if I remember correctly is now more than just a couple of Wires involved. I would gratefully appreciate whomever that is who has the Calypso Washer, to let me know what is involved in Bypassing the Lid Switch.

I'm going to possibly need to get another Pump for the Washer, according to the Friend who is giving me the Washer, but I'm going to see if it might just need to be taken apart and Cleaned out, or possibly just some new Wire Connections needed first, wish me good luck. It's about time that I have something given to me, if it is even somewhat newer, instead of a Vintage Age.

Actually free turned out great for me when the DW went out

Got a modern 1999 Sears Ultra wash that didnt clean very good

Installed in the kitchen and it runs great so cant beat free

I recently replaced the motor/pump on a Kenmore Calypso. One cannot buy the pump alone. It is only sold as an assembly. They retail for about $107.00. Part no is 285990. Sorry, can't help with the lid swith dilema.

You'll have a lot of fun with the Calypso, they are very interesting to watch. I wired a switch into the lid switch circuit and mounted the toggleswitch on the back panel. Since the machine's computer brain needs to sense the lid has been opened and of course, closed again for operation, you flip the switch before you start a load, flip it back which fools the machine into thinking the lid is closed again and it runs along it's merry way for the whole cycle.

Hope that makes some sense, when you actually have the machine, we'll walk you through it step by step. There are only two wires so it's not difficult at all.

to both fixerman and gansky1, I will check further upon arrival. I kind of figured that the Pump being Electric would no doubt include the Motor as well. Is it quite possible that even the Sears Tech might have just not wanted to work on the Machine, so they told my Friend how much it would cost, instead of possibly just being able to take the Pump apart, to see if it might be a simple Repair?

I will check back about the Lid Switch control later on, after getting the Washer and checking it out to get it operating agian.

The motor and pump are actually separate parts with separate part numbers but when one looks up the pump it crosses to the assembly. The one I worked on had a leak at the pump seal but the motor ran. It would seem unlikely the tech just didn't want to work on it since they are easily replaced. Remove front panel. Disconnect the pump harness. Lay the machine on the front to access the bottom. Disconnect hoses. Remove the 3 motor screws. Could be a problem elsewhere that the tech didn't know how to diagnose or was too lazy to look further.

I guess my P*O*S Calypso has finally died ? I have 5 inches of water remaining with FL (full load) flashing and buzzing sound. Shut it off, tried to restart and NADA... Just more FL flashing with buzzing. The water is in there for good...or is it?

Re: What if you try:

To Unplug your Calypso, let it set for maybe 15-minutes to 1/2 hour and then Plug it in again, maybe there is some kind of Circuit Board Jammed Programming. That is what we would try with Photo-Copiers, when I was working at the State of Calif. We would do this, after trying several other possibility things to get them operating again. Most of the time, this does help to Reset Circuitry and Programming Jamming, at least it is worth giving a try.

I was also wondering if they might have an In-Line Fuse, but if there was one and it went bad, the Washer probably wouldn't even give any Buzz or other Noises either.

Actually, I meant to say I unplugged it and waited a little bit and then tried it again and same problem. I just tried plugging it(been 24 hours)in again and same thing.

I should probably say that it started with a load of jeans being off balance. I tried to rearrange the jeans but when I went to check to see if it was the end of the cycle that is when I saw the flashing FL with buzzing.

I guess I'm dumping it. Unfortunately, I bought (charged it on Sears card) it within the first few months it came out (along with the expensive dryer) and then had some financial setbacks..well..let's just say I'm embarrassed to say how much (with outrageous interest rate) it ended up costing in the end. Within the first year it made black streaks on tons of my clothes, bleach spots on darks and dingy whites. It's been very stressful to say the least. Oh well...life goes on..obla di, obla da....

P.S. I think I will go out tomorrow and buy the $850 Fisher Paykel washer. Would you recommend it?

FL means this (see picture). You can access the tech sheet by removing the front panel. Check it out. Maybe you can diagnose the problem yourself. I do have a tech sheet I can send you by email if you need it.

I've finally gotten the Calypso Washer and it seems to look like it might open at the Top Cover, like the Belt Drive WP/Kenmore Washers, is this correct? I certainly don't want to try something without knowing for sure and causing any damage to the Cabinet or myself.

To gansky1, I would also appreciate help with the Lid Switch Bi-Pass, to allow the Washer to operate with the Lid being opened. I was checking on the Radio Shack Site for a Switch, I'm not sure as to which Switch I would need to get, or about the type/size of Wire to use as well, would appreciate this extra help, to make sure I get what I need, instead of the wrong items.

You will need a putty knife to pop the top just like an old Frigidaire (solid-tub rollermatic). Don't pull up too fast as there are plenty of hoses under there.

Mine has been waiting in line for me to give it a good clean up (has bad breath!) and bypass the lid switch. I have only tinkered with it a little, but did figure out how to pop the top. Good luck!
