As it's getting cooler down in 100+ degree Texas, more garage & estate sales are popping up, and nearly every weekend, after a good supply of kolaches & donuts (LOL), I've been hitting the sales! This weather is perfect for this--drive with the window down, the music up, and after you get home with your 1-18 or solid-tub SQ you can fire it up & do a load in the garage without sweating or shivering!

Well all of the above is true except for the 1-18 & SQ; I haven't been THAT lucky...unfortunately. :(

However, the luck seems to still be in good supply; I've been hitting different sales and coming back with some good stuff! In mid-November there was an estate sale in a WWII house, and I thought there would be something. There wasn't a W/D set, but some cool stuff nonetheless. I picked up some retro 60's Frigidaire ice trays (one with the Quickube lever) and a mint '83 Zenith Space Command console which now resides in my room (see thread 521). YAY! At a garage sale that same day I found a Swing-A-Way ice crusher from either the 70's or 80's. Yes...I've really been getting behind on uploading my pictures...

Today my mom picked up a Sanitaire SC899 "Wide Track" commercial vacuum in EXCELLENT shape and a pair of retro Avocado GE hand mixers, all for only $13!! It was quite a surprise to walk into my room and see all of it...couldn't thank her enough! So...tomorrow I'm hitting the estate sale and seeing what that Maytag is...with any luck at all it will be a pre-Orbital machine. I'll take my camera with me and post pics. As for now, here are my recent finds...enjoy!

Nice finds! Your mom got a great deal on that Sanitaire. That will make quick work of the carpets in your home, and do them up very well to boot! Hang on to that one, it will be an excellent daily driver, but you may well already know that!

nice vac and my mom has the mixer

in your "mixers pic" my mom still has the newer looking one on the left, still works great ............. although she hardly ever uses it, hahahah, nice vac too, congrads on your finds :)

Sanitaire

Those pics remind me of my Mom's Sanitaire upright. She has a blue-bag model without the long Vibra-Beater. Twenty-some years old and still goin' strong!

And About Sanitiare

Yes,

When I used to contract carpet clean for Hotels/Motels in this area...I used a Sanitiare 16 that I still have to this day. I would just replace the bristle strips when they became worn and the belt...(which you could ALWAYS tell when it was getting stretched and not working properly), and I converted mine to using the Paperbag dump system.

When I bought mine from Electric Sweeper Service so long ago (1996) it came with a huge red cloth bag. While the cloth system works..it very seldom helps you in other areas like dusting and human air quality/filtration. I used to buy F&G Sanitized bags by the case that were treated with some sort of germicidal compound that killed mold and dander.

I had to replace a few cords over the years, and just recently bought a VibraGroomer II to replace the VibraGroomer I that was in it orgininally. I was told by my sources that they were discontinuing completly all parts for the VG I and would be smart now to make the switch.

Good for you Austin on the find for your mom.....You paid all of $5.00 that Workhorse that if properly used, adjusted and maintained will last you longer than any vacuum cleane ron todays market.

Just so you know, I paid $529.99 for mine all those years ago. Today I believe you can get the 16 inch Sanitaire for like $399 new. It's made me FAR more than what I paid for it...with all the homes that I have cleaned, places I've used it...They are nothing to be sneered at...
