So, if I'm crazy enough to consider rechroming part of my "new" 1969 GE P-7 range -- specifically, the trim around the oven door window -- can anyone recommend a place, or places, for getting that done? Thanks in advance,

Dean

Check with auto restoration people. They usually know someone who can rechrome bumpers on cars. It's cheaper than new and the outcome is normally great. You may want to consult a auto body shop and ask them who will rechrome bumpers in your area. Then call that place to find out more info.

Here is his reply.

Chroming.........Good question. There are still chroming places here in California. I think Van Nuys Plating is still in business, and probably the chroming place in Long Beach. I've used both, but it's been 14 years, at least. The problem with re-chroming is that the EPA has cracked down on these guys so hard. Might be okay for indoor use, but for outdoor/automotive, it's tough to have it last a long time. Many people send stuff to Mexico, but of course you risk never seeing your stuff again.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your feedback and advice on rechroming. As it turns out, another AW.org member has a non-working oven in storage that has the same chrome window frame as mine, and this member has generously offered that frame to me.

If the "donor" frame has not been damaged from storage, my problem should be solved. Otherwise, you have given me some good leads on shops that could rechrome my window frame if necessary. Thanks again,

Dean
