Red vinyl asbestos tile

I recall a post where someone had original red vinyl asbestos tile floors and needed replacement tiles. A friend rescued a box from the roadside not knowing what she had found. It's not enough for a project but might help someone else. They are Armstrong Excelon vinyl plastic asbestos in red. 1 box. If anyone can use them, let me know. Free.

I know..

Most people today are terrified of it, but I love the stuff, and no one has convinced me its dangerous, its not like im going to grind it up and breathe it..LOL And the colors are beautiful.

Seems like that was Ken - when he posted some pictures that included a red-and-white tile floor, original to the house.

The issue with asbestos tile is that some lenders and municipalities will be skittish about it, especially if/when a house is sold. And someone may remove it not realizing it's asbestos since it was newly laid and then get involved with legal issues.

What is the contractors adage, something about squares of ten beware (the old tiles are smaller than the new vinyl tiles).

But when you cut the tile to make it fit corners the asbestos dust will be released.

Not a big deal...

Nice thing about VAT is that all it takes to cut and fit is a quick score and a snap! I had just enough original 9x9's to do my new auxiliary kitchen. Got a little creative with the pattern to make it work out but it looks great! Old TV's and some radios are more dangerous with their pads of friable asbestos. Been there, done that. -Cory

Probably depends on how you cut the tile. If you use a shape knife or shears, then perhaps little asbestos dust is release. If one uses a power saw, then a lot of fibers could be released.
